What an amazing WCM Career Week Zoom call with our Summer Jobs participants who aspire to become veterinarians. We appreciate the Vet professionals who found time in their busy schedules to talk to them about how to reach their career goals. Thank you to Dr. Willie M, Greggs, Jr., DVM, PhD and Zion Hill for being true inspirations for our young people. Dr. Greggs and Zion have deep roots in Conway (Willie was born and raised in Conway and Zion's parents and grandparents are from Conway). Dr. Greggs is a practicing Veterinarian in Atlanta and Zion, who works with an Animal Clinic in the Atlanta area, will be attending Vet School soon. Fun Fact: Both of our special guests are Tuskegee grads - HBCUs out here producing talented veterinarians! On Tuesday and Wednesday, the students were also able to visit Loris Animal Hospital for job shadowing with Dr. Julie Hartman and her staff. We appreciate these community partners for the intentional connections created with our summer jobs students.

Join us for this discussion at 7:00 PM.

I am having an incredible time working with these wonderful teens enrolled in this year's summer jobs program. They have completed 4 weeks of virtual sessions on employability topics such as professionalism and work ethics, dressing for success, interpersonal skills, and explored their career interests and personal finances so far. This is a screenshot of our week 4 meetup that happened today. Smiling faces with an eagerness to learn. The future of our community is bright with all these wonderful students aspiring to become impactful in their career fields. These teens expressed career interests in medicine, engineering, culinary, IT, law, early child development, and entrepreneurship and will have the opportunity to meet with community partners and professionals in those fields in weeks 5 and 6. Did I mention that they will receive a stipend for participating in this program? Learning while they earn - that's a win-win!

Special shout out to our Horry County community partners for participating in this year's program and to those businesses and institutions that will make it possible for these teens to explore their career aspirations:

Partners and Staff of McIver & Graham , PA Law Office
The Juice Crush
Sharolyn Dewitt, CPA
Zion Hill-Wilks - Tuskegee Graduate and Medical School candidate (Veterinary Science)
Camp B.L.U.E (Conway Police Department)

It truly takes a village to sustain the tribe. 4 down and 2 to go! Can't believe summer is almost over - oh what a t8ime we've had!
