BOOK NOW FOR STELLENBOSCH’S OPEN-AIR WINE-AND-FOOD STREET SOIRÉES

The very best season to experience Stellenbosch is back and along with it, the City of Oaks’ famous open-air Street Soirées too. Organised by the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, the Stellenbosch Street Soirées are the opportunity to get a taste of winelands living in an informal, cocktail setting with top wine, street food and live music.

Starting from October 29, the Street Soirées take place once or twice a month until March 25 next year. While the run may seem long, tickets to each two-hour event sell out quickly and bookings should best be made promptly via https://plankton.mobi/.

“The Stellenbosch Street Soirées have become one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the winelands calendar,” says Stellenbosch Wine Routes manager Elmarie Rabe. “It’s not only a way to be immersed in the rich wine and food traditions of the Stellenbosch lifestyle but many people use it as a prelude to a night on the town.”

With a long history as the epicentre of wine and food excellence in South Africa, Stellenbosch remains a top destination when it comes to The Good Life. It is home to many of the country’s most prized wineries, awarded chefs and eateries. Its street cafés, wine bars and estate restaurants come alive in the sunnier months – precisely the time when these ever-popular Street Soirées take place.

For each occasion, a public road lined with trademark giant oaks is cordoned off and for two hours, is occupied by comfy seating pods, stalls offering a diverse selection of wine and street food, and a live musical performance. Paired with the fine seasonal weather of the winelands at dusk, the Stellenbosch Street Soirées are once again the place to be over the coming months.

Dates of the Stellenbosch Street Soirées for 2025/26:

• 29 October
• 12 & 26 November
• 10 December

The Bistro at Brookdale Estate Launches Elegant New Summer Menu in the Heart of the Paarl Winelands

The Bistro at Brookdale Estate has launched its new summer menu, a vibrant and thoughtful expression of Cape terroir and global inspiration, led by Executive Chef Gary Coetzee. Voted amongst Dineplan’s Top 20 Restaurants in South Africa for 2025, the Bistro it is situated in the heart of the Paarl Winelands, amongst the vineyards at the foot of the Klein Drakenstein mountains.

The new seasonal menu offers a distinctive culinary experience that invites guests to open their minds and palates to the possibilities of the region. A celebration of fresh, local produce and progressive culinary techniques, it mirrors the Brookdale philosophy in the vineyards: a curated blend of the traditional and the unexpected. As the estate’s wines explore minimalistic, terroir-driven expressions, the summer menu complements the estate wines with dishes that invite guests to sip, taste, savour, and share stories.

Starters include a refreshing green gazpacho, a twice-baked cheese soufflé that delivers lightness and depth, and a rich duck liver paté. Trout tartare and beef carpaccio reflect precise ex*****on, while spice-battered prawns add a lively kick. A smoked snoek paté, nodding to local culinary heritage, rounds out the beginning of the dining experience.

Chef Gary’s signature risottos remain a highlight of the Bistro’s offering this season. Available in both traditional and plant-based options, guests can choose between a mushroom risotto or one made with pea purée - both available as either a starter or a main course.

Main courses are crafted to suit a variety of palates and preferences. Highlights include a crisp mushroom spring roll and a delicately pan-seared fish of the day. Diners can also enjoy boldly spiced tandoori chicken, slow-cooked confit leg of duck, Moroccan-style lamb, or a robust pork chop. For steak lovers, the tallow-aged sirloin is a stand-out, aged for flavour and char-grilled with finesse.

Seasonal sides are designed to complement and elevate the mains. Options include hand-cut fries, char-grilled mielie served with harissa mayonnaise, char-grilled gem lettuce, and a delicious broccoli and avocado salad.

To finish, guests can indulge in the lemongrass crèmeux, a smooth and citrus-forward dessert, or the Cape Malay koeksister soufflé, which reimagines a beloved local treat. A gluten-free cannoli provides a lighter alternative, while a classic cheese board offers a savoury conclusion to the meal.

The Bistro at Brookdale Estate continues to push boundaries while staying rooted in a sense of place. With a menu that honours the abundant produce and wine heritage of the region while embracing international influences, Chef Gary Coetzee and his team invite guests to experience a summer of flavour, elegance, and exploration.

join tashas and sa harvest in the movement to end hunger in south africa

This October, tashas celebrates 20 years of delicious food, meaningful connection, and the spirit of generosity that has defined the brand since day one. To mark this milestone, CEO and Founder of Tashas Group, Natasha Sideris, and her team are inviting their customers to join them in making a meaningful impact – by supporting the fight against hunger in South Africa.

The initiative, launched on World Food Day on the 16th of October runs until the 27th of November 2025, and sees tashas once again partner with SA Harvest with the goal of delivering over 130 000 meals. During 2022, their collaboration delivered 81 250 meals with the support of their customers.

During this campaign, for every purchase of two of tashas’ signature dishes, Creamy Pesto Pasta or Chicken Crunch Salad, R20 will be donated, enough to deliver 20 meals to those in need. Prefer a different dish? No problem – guests can simply choose to add R20 to their bill, either in-store or via UberEats, to contribute directly to the cause.

SA Harvest is a pioneering food rescue and hunger relief organisation that has already delivered over 91.85 million meals and saved more than 23.3 million kilograms of food from going to waste.

“We’re proud to stand alongside SA Harvest and our guests in creating real change, one plate at a time”, says Natasha. “Our goal for this campaign is to support SA Harvest in delivering at least 130 000 meals to their beneficiary organisations through this campaign.”

Join tashas in turning everyday dining into a powerful act of generosity. Because 20 years of beautiful food, stunning environments and engaging personal service deserves a legacy of good deeds.

Cappuccino tops the charts as nation’s favourite coffee: New data reveals South Africa’s best-selling Starbucks coffees

New Starbucks sales data reveals South Africa’s favourite coffees, with results showing a clear preference for simple, timeless classics.
It seems that when it comes to everyday luxuries, less is more - with refined, simple pleasures leading the charge in South Africa’s coffee culture.

With Cappuccino coming out on top, followed by Latte and Caramel Macchiato, the rankings are based on total product quantity sold in the past year*, offering a clear snapshot of how coffee lovers in South Africa prefer their daily brew. Espresso-based drinks also remain fan-favourites for their bold flavour and elegant simplicity, continuing to win over coffee lovers nationwide.
South Africa’s Top Five Starbucks Coffees

Cappuccino –A balanced mix of espresso, steamed milk, and foam, offering a rich and frothy texture.
Latte – A smooth blend of espresso and steamed milk.
Caramel Macchiato - Freshly steamed milk with vanilla-flavoured syrup, marked with espresso and finished with caramel sauce.
Americano – A classic espresso topped with hot water for a long, smooth coffee with a lighter body.
Mocha – Espresso combined with mocha syrup and steamed milk.

The results underscore what Starbucks customers in South Africa value most: quality, craftsmanship, and a delicious cup that fits seamlessly into their daily routines and rituals.

Starbucks proudly sources 100% arabica coffee from more than 450,000 farmers in 30 markets along “The Coffee Belt” in Latin America, Asia Pacific and Africa. The coffee is then handcrafted by Starbucks baristas to ensure every cup reflects Starbucks commitment to excellent coffee.

This month’s Coffee Day, a global celebration, was established by the International Coffee Organisation to honour the people and communities behind every cup, from bean to brew. In recognition of this, Starbucks has extended the spirit of celebration throughout October with its Global Month of Coffee, spotlighting the beverage, the craft, and the baristas who make each cup special.

“At Starbucks, every is a coffee day! We don’t believe that celebrations should be limited to one day, or even one month. We know our customers feel the same way, and every cup of their favourite brew is a moment to enjoy and value the special craft that goes into making it. While Starbucks is renowned for its beverage innovation – such as Pumpkin Spice Latte – this data shows that customers in South Africa still see Starbucks as leading in core coffee classics, done well. The results reveal a South African coffee culture focused on premium quality and craftmanship, with Starbucks customers regularly returning to stores for timeless espresso-based drinks, made with premium ingredients and handcrafted by expert baristas,” says Ishan Natalie - Operations Services, Category and Coffee Excellence Lead at Starbucks South Africa.

Throughout October, Starbucks stores across South Africa are celebrating Global Month of Coffee with opportunities for customers to learn more about the craft behind their favourite brews, and perhaps even discover a new one.
