Riding high on a prolific wave of output, Kloke returns to Mindgames with Lucidity — an album that confirms his position at the forefront of modern jungle.

Andy Donnelly has been actively releasing a broad swathe of electronic music since the late 00s, but it's his sharpened focus on jungle and drum & bass over the past 10 years that has cemented his reputation. As well as working closely with fellow scene leaders like Tim Reaper, the Australia based artist has hit a flow state with his productions where the quality and quantity seems limitless. Since Mindgames started as a Samurai Music sub-label, Kloke has been a core part of the imprint's identity. Having already dropped the Mindgame 8 EP earlier this year, Donnelly is back with a full-length salvo of advanced jungle heavy on the technicalities and even heavier on the vibes.

Gritty, raw and true to the roots of the culture, Kloke stands tall on Lucidity. It's the kind of detailed, deep and deadly album that shows jungle at its absolute best — a sound that still feels like the future in the right hands.

With a steely sound matching fathoms-deep echo chambers with metallic textures and precision drums, Sciama arrives on Samurai Music to press into the inspiring hinterland between techno and drum & bass.

Sciama is the production alias for Michael Watters, a producer who since 2019 has carved out a formidable reputation across a stellar run of releases on ASC’s Auxiliary label. While his music references UK bass, transcendental techno and industrial, the end result is a taut, focused journey through fractured, weighty rhythms and vast, ranging atmospherics tilted towards the darkness.

Between Veils is testament to Watters’ refined production, steeped in intensely detailed and layered sound design in constant fluid motion, whether locked to the grid or shifting across the surface of the track like grayscale snow drifts. Noise becomes a subtle tool in his hands, capable of delicacy as much as abrasion, and discord evokes a haunting beauty if you listen past the clangorous overtones he elicits from his pads.

Moving well beyond the boundaries of any specific genre, Between Veils winds up as a strong, independent statement on the meeting point between broad influences and clear intentions — a formidable addition to Samurai Music’s explorations beyond drum & bass and Sciama’s steadily evolving, singular style.

Plying refracted rhythms with an exacting poise, Aerae arrives on Samurai Music with a fully formed sound that plumbs the depths between techno immersion and D&B beat science.

An accomplished, palpable tension runs throughout Nefanda, Aerae’s second solo release. Following up on the meditative pulse of her debut album on Annulled Music last year, the Paris-based artist digs deeper into ominous atmospheres filled with evocative reverb decays and taut, dynamic drum work — tools she wields to render tracks with specific meaning, coded by the Latin framing that runs through all aspects of her musical output. Contemplating the ancient language as an inescapable part of her European roots, on Nefanda Aerae ruminates on external trials and inner impulses, and conjures a jaw-clenching soundtrack to match.

Finding her own language within the dialogue between techno, D&B and dark ambient, Aerae’s music makes a vivid impression thanks to the ideas and intention that drive her in the studio. Nefanda confirms her status as a leading light in deep, psychedelic dance music, making something extremely personal that also reaches out beyond notions of the self like all the best transcendental music.

Today we are welcoming Sciama

Weaving experimental sound design and UK bassweight pressure through his exacting productions, Sciama joins the Samurai Music community as an accomplished artist in his own right.

Since 2019, Michael Watters has been releasing as Sciama at a steady pace, principally on ASC’s acclaimed Auxiliary label. That benchmark tells you enough about the quality and detail that charges his leftfield take on the drum & bass tradition, taking as much influence from deep, trance-inducing techno as sharp, 170BPM rollers. More recent offerings to A Walking Contradiction and Ooda have only added to the intrigue around Watters’ productions, widening the reach of his tense, subtle works and leaving him free to operate in between scenes — the very embodiment of a ‘grey area’ artist working outside generic boundaries.

Sciama will be landing on Samurai Music with a stunning five-track EP in the very near future — aa perfect match for the exploration undertaken by our recent releases from Aerae, Vardae and Ancestral Voices.

Samurai Music’s mission to platform essential new talent in the crossover zone between drum & bass and techno continues with the introduction of AERAE to the fold.

Drawing on Latin language to charge her output with an ancient, ancestral dimension, Aerae has a sharply focused sound steeped in maturity and intention. The sonic stamp of her music is organic percussion applied to an exacting, fractured framework, charged with subversive tones and textures that encourage an introspective mindset. In a pronounced dialogue with the thriving deep techno movement, Aerae’s production stands out thanks to the sharp angles and pointed attack of her drum work.

Aerae unveiled her first full suite of productions last year through the Percussive Reverie album on Annulled Music, a Norwegian label at the vanguard of deep techno abstraction. Combined with a steady increase in prominent appearances at festivals like Positive Education and Nous’Klaer Festival and shared bills with similarly visionary meditators like Spekki Webu, Emily Jeanne, Mama Snake and Woody92, Aerae’s position within the contemporary scene is more than assured.

Samurai Music will be proud to add to her run of achievements with a four-track EP charting the latest steps in her sonic evolution, scheduled to drop in July 2025.

Surely one of electronic musics most treasured and gifted artists, Liam has taken command of every tempo (and non tempo) he has worked in, and sculpted timeless pieces that combine innovative production techniques with an intrinsic gift for the ethereal. We are proud to have coaxed him back to 170 for Nemeton, an album that deftly reminds the scene of Liam’s immense talent. Deep 150-170 is once again having a beautiful moment that’s exciting us again, and this sound has its foundation, and takes influence from music that artists like Liam created over a decade ago. If you haven’t researched his work as both Ancestral Voices and Indigo, and also Akkord (with Synkro), we highly recommend it.

We hope we can bring him back for more 🙏🏻

Since first emerging around 2017, Vardae has been determined to establish a sound unbound by genre restrictions. To date he’s successfully moved between cult labels such as Non Series and Ooda while pivoting from linear 4/4 to crooked broken beat without disrupting his immersive, finely sculpted production style.

Alongside his releases, Vardae is also responsible for the ouroboros festival that takes place every year in central France. Last summer, after the dancefloor closed on the final night of the the event, fabled Dutch transcendental ambient group Son Of Chi made an acoustic concert around the campfire that cast a spell over everyone present. This experience formed the inspirational basis for Vardae’s new EP, drawing on the instinctive power of insistent rhythm and the spiritual intrigue that lies behind subtly dissonant tones — shadows cast by refined, restrained synthesis flickering in the imagined light of the flames.

From the rattle of timbale on ‘The Light Motion’ to the laser-focused ripples that charge through ‘Voices Of Dispossession’, Vardae bends and shapes his drum work with exacting intention across this EP. Treading the line between 85 and 170BPM, he approaches fierce peaks in his tracks with an exacting patience, building to the arp-soaked climax of ‘Flaming As A Cloud’ and its ecstatic, melodic crescendo.

Proudly individual and drawing from the deepest of musical experiences, Vardae’s latest statement promises similarly profound moments when these pieces come into contact with the right souls and the right sound in the right setting.
