THE SENATE BURIED THE FILIPINOS' DEMAND FOR ACCOUNTABILITY TO PROTECT ONE POLITICAL DYNASTY

Let’s be clear: what the Senate did today wasn’t mere procedure — it was a cowardly betrayal of the Filipino people.

By archiving the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, the Senate effectively killed and buried the people’s demand for accountability — without the courage to say they were dismissing it outright.

They buried it. Hid it. Sanitized it. And called it “procedure.” But we know what it was: a political cover-up.

80% OF FILIPINOS WANTED AN IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

Polls have shown it. Voices across the nation have echoed it.
Eighty percent of the public — ordinary citizens, taxpayers, Filipinos with no dynastic ties — want the Vice President to answer the allegations of misuse of confidential funds in a proper impeachment court. They want clarity. They want truth.

But instead of respecting that overwhelming public mandate, the majority of the Senate chose to side with fear — fear of the Dutertes and their cult-like following. Not fear of the law, not fear of accountability, not fear of justice — but fear of political backlash.

THE FIVE WHO STOOD WITH THE PEOPLE
Let history record the names of those who stood for the Constitution and the Filipino people:
Bam Aquino. Risa Hontiveros. Ping Lacson. Kiko Pangilinan. Tito Sotto.
They voted not only with reason — but with conscience.
They defended the Senate’s sole constitutional duty to try impeachment cases.
They listened to the 80%, not the 20% who scream louder but stand on weaker ground.
They lost the vote, yes — but they won the moral argument, and for that they have my full respect and admiration.

THE REST: LOYAL TO THE DUTERTES, NOT TO COUNTRY
And what of those who sided with Sara Duterte and voted to archive the complaint? Let’s name them for what they are —enablers of impunity:

Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa – The Senate arm of the Duterte machinery. Loyal not to the Constitution, but to the family that launched his career.

Robin Padilla – Pardoned by Duterte, now repaying it in installments of blind obedience.
B**g Go – Still acting more like Duterte’s personal assistant than a senator of the republic.

The Villar bloc – Billionaire beneficiaries of Duterte-era infrastructure. Silent in the face of blatant conflict of interest.
Imee Marcos – The Vice President’s political ally and protector, proving loyalty to a popular family trumps her duty to the public.
Rodante Marcoleta – Once a Duterte die-hard in the House, now serving the same interests in the Senate.
Chiz Escudero – Once seen as independent, now falling silent when strength of principle matters most so as to protect his Senate leadership position.

Allan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano – The sibling tandem who speak of reform but act in defense of status quo.
These are not defenders of the Constitution.
They are defenders of a dynasty — a family that demands obedience, not scrutiny.
A SENATE THAT BURIED ACCOUNTABILITY
Let us not mince words: To archive is to kill.
The Senate tried to dress it up with legalese and motions, but the result is the same:

No trial.
No transparency.
No justice.
They turned the upper chamber of Congress into a refuge for the powerful, rather than a venue for truth.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
If the Supreme Court blocks the process,
And the Senate buries the complaint,
Then where do the people go for justice?

When both the judiciary and the legislature conspire — wittingly or not — to insulate the powerful from accountability, what recourse is left to the people?

This isn’t just institutional failure.
This is systemic sabotage of public trust.
TO EVERY FILIPINO READING THIS:
What kind of senator are you supporting?
The kind who listens to 80% of us, or the kind who fears the wrath of one political family?

The kind who upholds the Constitution, or the kind who rewrites it to save their allies?

The kind who stands with the public, or the kind who kneels before the powerful?

If your answer is trapo, tuta, o tagapagtanggol ng sarili, then ask yourself— what kind of future are you voting for?
Because today, the Senate showed us what happens when self-preservation trumps public service.
They may have archived the complaint.
But they also archived their credibility.
And the people? We are watching. And we will not forget.
