In 2024, a fire broke out in the main maternity ward, which also resulted in its closure."

"Our April WEO forecast projected global growth of 2.8 percent in 2025 and 3.0 percent in 2026, well below the historical average of 3.7 percent. This included significant downgrades to major economies such as the U.S. and China, owing to greater policy uncertainty, trade tensions, and softer demand momentum. Global headline inflation was projected to decline, but at a slower pace, reaching 4.3 percent in 2025 and 3.6 percent in 2026."

Economic indicators reflect a complex backdrop shaped by trade tensions.

There's a risk of a coup d'etat in SA

The Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni told the media on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, that there is a risk of a coup d'etat in the country.

She however assured South Africans that the intelligence is monitoring the situation and that there are measures in place to mitigate the risk.

Ntshavheni said, there has been no attempt of carrying out the coup in the past few weeks. She said risks do not necessarily mean that they will be implemented by those who are planning it, but the state security is on high alert. She affirmed that there are people who are planning a coup d'etat.
