CHIKUMBUTSO SALIMA STRIKES LATE AS BULLETS BREAK DEDZA CURSE
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets finally ended their long-standing winless streak at Dedza Stadium with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos in a fiercely contested TNM Super League encounter on Wednesday afternoon.
A late 89th-minute strike by Chikumbutso Salima, set up by substitute Babatunde, proved to be the difference in a match that saw both sides create numerous chances but struggle with finishing.
Speaking after the match, Bullets head coach Peter Mponda expressed delight over his team’s performance, praising the collective effort of the squad.
“I'm happy with the team's performance. Yes, in the first half we played very well and created many chances, but we didn't use them. Come second half, I introduced new faces to change the game, and I'm happy that it happened. I cannot mention individual players – it’s the team that made us proud,” said Mponda.
On the other hand, Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos head coach Andrew Bunya admitted disappointment with the result, pointing to a costly lapse in concentration late in the game.
“It’s something we cannot take lightly. We wanted to surprise Bullets with an early goal, but we failed and then conceded in the 89th minute, which is so bad for us. Miscommunication in our defence killed us. In football, sometimes you plan one way, and it happens another. We still need to work on our weak areas,” Bunya said.
Following the result, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets still leading the TNM Super League standings with 12 points from four matches, maintaining a perfect record. Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos, meanwhile, sit in 7th position with 6 points from five games.
