🥖 Soft Buns (Oil-Based)
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 ½ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup warm milk (or water for lighter buns)
¼ cup vegetable oil (sunflower, canola, or similar)
1 large egg (optional, makes them richer)
Extra oil for greasing
Instructions
1. In a bowl, mix warm milk (or water), sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
2. Add in the oil (and egg if using) and whisk well.
3. Gradually add flour + salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
4. Knead for 8–10 minutes (dough should be smooth and slightly sticky but not too wet).
5. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
6. Punch down, divide into equal portions (about 12 buns), shape into balls, and place on a greased/lined tray.
7. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
8. Brush tops with milk or egg wash (optional).
9. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15–18 minutes until golden.
