Wow! 😮 Wow! 😮 Wow! 😮 Brotherkupa mayhem in Lusaka, Zambia!
Kupa headlined a local event in Zambia last night, June 6, called the Lusaka Thrift Market. On foreign soil, he performed to a sold-out crowd with a sound that has been ridiculed as horrible, dismissed as a fad, and written off as having no future by the average South African—or by those who simply do not get it. Well, it translated in Zambia.
Kupa was embraced by hundreds of Zambian youths who filled the underground parking area at Longacres Shopping Mall. They raged, they cheered, formed mosh pits, and sang his name.
This is huge for Brotherkupa because not many South African hip-hop acts can put on shows in foreign countries, let alone sell them out. But he did it.
However, Brotherkupa is no stranger to international crowds. In 2025, British rapper Lancey Foux brought him out during his set at the Reading and Leeds Festival, one of the UK’s biggest music festivals, drawing roughly 170,000 attendees each year, according to a report from Nomipalony.
Later that year, in December, Brotherkupa and Jaykatana put on an electrifying show in Kenya. Botswana, meanwhile, has become something of a second home for the duo, with both artists having built a growing audience there.
In parting, what happened in Zambia is a huge moment for Brotherkupa. A huge moment for the sound he represents. South African hip hop benefits as well. Moments like this not only open doors for him but for those who come after him as well.
Brotherkupa has also hinted at the possibility of an African tour, suggesting that Zambia may be just the beginning of a broader regional run.
