Album of the day: Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J.
You know that feeling when a record hits you through both the visuals and the sound at the exact same time? Seeing the “Mama Said Knock You Out” video in 1990 felt like pure energy — raw, aggressive and cinematic. But beyond the anthem itself, this album was stacked with joints that revealed different sides of LL.

Personally, standout cuts gotta be “The Power Of God,” “Milky Cereal,” “Mr. Good Bar” and “The Boomin’ System.” At this rate I might as well list the entire album because there are barely any skips on this one.

Coming off Walking with a Panther — a project I only truly came to appreciate in later years — this album felt like a statement. And with the legendary Marley Marl handling production, the sound carried that hard-hitting, dusty, speaker-knocking DNA that defined an era.

This wasn’t just a comeback album. It was LL reminding everybody why he was still dangerous on the mic.

9 years ago with the Each One Teach One crew representing Germany, alongside the South African contingent HHESA (Hip Hop Education South Africa) — the now defunct organisation founded by myself, DJ Eazy, and Richard Bradstreet in 2002. Since 2005, we’ve shared strong exchange programs between South Africa and Germany, a vision sparked by Frau Anne Schmeckies, who also hosted Prophets of Da City during their tours in Germany back in the 90s. What started through hip hop, education, and cultural exchange evolved into something far deeper — lifelong bonds, friendships, shared memories, and a connection that transcended music itself. Looking back, I carry nothing but gratitude for every soul who walked that journey with us. Each conversation, each workshop, each performance, and each moment contributed to a chapter of my life I’ll always value and never forget. This experience has helped me pour into G-CAP the current NPO that I am affiliated to. The journey continues...

“Old photographs are moments captured in real time… proof that we were there, feeling something, becoming someone. Memory keeps the emotion alive, while life keeps moving us further from who we were and closer to who we are.”

I call her the “Silent Assassin” 🥷 — and last night she showed everyone exactly why. The 13 year old DJ Tate M gonna be a problem 🙏❤️👌It was a proud moment seeing one of our most unassuming students step up and command the stage with a full two-hour set at Fire & Ice.
