A Legacy of Giving: The 9th distribution this Ramadan came and went in a blur. It was a Sunday, and the day before had been so hectic, I barely knew if I was coming or going. But as my father would say, "Wat is beter as om kos te gee vir die mense?" (What’s better than feeding the people?)
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our few but consistent sponsors, far and wide, big and small, our dear family friend, Eeza, Faiza Fisher Isaacs, her husband, Abdul Malik, daughters Bilqees and Kouthar, and darling nephew, Niaz.
Eeza’s sister, Kaafah Kashiefa Fisher Toffie and also her madrassa friends are no stranger to Pinkie's CHOW Community Food Drives and came to cook for Hanover Park before, for the Esale Sawaab of our late sister, Fatima Salie Naicker who passed away during Covid-19. May Allah have mercy on her soul, Ameen.
On school, Kaafah with her melodious voice would recite for me in class and reminded me of my cousins in Lansdowne. So, we go back to Portia Primary and Groenvlei High days — We're sending lots of love to this family for offering their space, time, and effort for a good cause in the area just behind the Lansdowne Corner Mall, which forms part of Hanover Park.
We thank Adiela Da Silva, also in Hanover Park near to the vanguard exit, for assisting us with some breads for the Esale Sawaab of her parents, M. Zain and Nazley Adonis. May Allah grant them the Jannah, Ameen.
While we were busy dishing out bowls of warmth, Eeza mentioned of her late mother and sister, and we pray that Allah accepts all their good intentions and sacrifices, Ameen.
We also remember all those who came before us—my dad, Haji Abduraghman 'Pinkie' Galant, his teacher, Ash Shaheed Imam Abdullah Haron, and the Davids cousins, Imaams: Ebrahim (Sep) and Boeta Saliem, who stood for justice and carried their mission into the townships to our brothers and sisters who were worse affected by the Apartheid System. My granny, Sies Dieja 'Aggies' Galant the heart of our home, would make the food with love and devotion.
May we never forget where we come from, their roles, their influence, and the lessons they left us with. May Allah accept from them and from us, and grant them the Jannah, Ameen.
Be part of this ongoing legacy, sponsor for as little as R100. Every contribution makes a difference.
