Coming in at #43 on The Culture Report SA's Top 50 Afrikaans Artists of the first half of 2026 is Die Twaalf—an artist whose name itself is a reference to the infamous Numbers Gang hierarchy, where a "12-star" represents the rank of a general. That symbolism is reflected throughout his music, which embraces the raw realities, language and street culture of the Cape Flats.

Die Twaalf is unapologetically a gangster rapper. His music isn't designed to appeal to everyone.
