A special project we did for Firm Foundation Alliance for a event.

This was one of those projects where the brief was about far more than creating something that looked good.

THE BRIEF

Firm Foundation Alliance needed a 3-minute opening video for its Youth Day programme.

The video had to speak honestly to young people about the realities they face, while remaining hopeful, faith-centred and distinctly South African.

It also needed to introduce FFA without making the organisation the centre of the story.

THE DESIRED OUTCOME

We wanted a young person watching to feel:

I am seen.
My future still matters.
God has not finished with me.

And we wanted the adults in the room to understand that supporting young people cannot simply be someone else’s responsibility.

OUR PROCESS

We started with the message — not the visuals.

We worked through:

• What does this audience need to hear?
• What should they feel in the first few seconds?
• What does FFA actually want to say?
• What belongs in a 3-minute video — and what does not?
• How do we communicate faith without losing the young person we are trying to reach?

From there we developed the script, narrative flow, scenes, visual direction and pacing.

The final story moved deliberately from reality → being seen by God → possibility → responsibility → invitation.

THE END RESULT

A Youth Day video built around one central message:

“But God is still writing your story.
Hy is nog nie klaar nie.”

And a line that also captured where Firm Foundation Alliance is right now:

“Ons bou nog. Maar ons luister al.”

Because good communication is not simply about making content.

It is about knowing who you are speaking to, what you need them to understand, and what you want the communication to achieve.

That is the thinking we bring to our work at Pathway Solutions.

Practical pathways to growth and opportunity.

Should job seekers use the same CV for every application?

One CV may contain your full work history, but it should not be sent unchanged to every employer.

Job seekers are often advised to “tailor” their CVs. Unfortunately, this can sound as though they are expected to rewrite everything—or change who they are—to suit each vacancy.

That is not what tailoring means.

Tailoring a CV means presenting your truthful experience in a way that makes its relevance to a particular job easy to see.

Consider a person who has worked in a small retail store. Their duties may have included:

• Assisting customers
• Operating the till
• Receiving deliveries
• Counting stock
• Packing shelves
• Keeping the shop clean and organised

When applying for a cashier vacancy, the CV should place greater emphasis on customer service, cash handling and till operation.

When applying for a warehouse assistant vacancy, the same person should place greater emphasis on receiving deliveries, packing, stock counting and maintaining an orderly work area.

The facts have not changed.

The emphasis has.

Why does this matter?

Employers are not simply asking whether an applicant is hardworking or employable.

They are asking:

“Does this applicant meet the requirements of this particular job?”

A generic CV may contain the right experience, but hide it beneath unrelated information. Recruiters should not have to search through several pages to discover that the applicant has the exact skill listed in the advert.

Tailoring also encourages the job seeker to slow down and read the vacancy properly.

Before applying, the applicant should ask:

• Which requirements are essential?
• Which parts of my experience prove that I meet them?
• Are specific qualifications, licences or registrations required?
• Does the employer want particular software or technical skills?
• Are there application instructions that I must follow exactly?

This matters for every job, but the amount of tailoring required will differ.

A cleaner, packer, shelf packer or general worker may only need to make a few focused adjustments. Shift availability, physical work, location, transport and relevant duties may be the main priorities.

Professional, technical, government, graduate, management and specialist applications usually require more detailed tailoring. Employers may be looking for particular systems, qualifications, industry experience, measurable achievements, registrations or leadership responsibilities.

The practical solution is not to create a completely new CV for every vacancy.

Job seekers should build:

1. A master CV

This contains their full work history, duties, achievements, qualifications, certificates and skills.

2. Several job-family CVs

For example:

• Retail and Customer Service
• Administration and Data Capturing
• General Work, Warehouse and Production
• Hospitality and Food Service
• Driving and Logistics
• Professional or Technical Work

3. A final tailored application copy

Before submitting, the applicant should compare the closest CV version with the advert and make the necessary adjustments.

There is also an important boundary:

Tailoring is not lying.

It does not mean copying every requirement into the CV, claiming skills the applicant does not have, changing job titles dishonestly or inventing qualifications.

It means helping the employer recognise the applicant’s real and relevant value.

The goal is not to become a different person for every vacancy.

The goal is to make it easier for the employer to see why the real person may be suitable for the job.

Do not send the same CV blindly. Read the advert, identify the match and present it clearly.

ON AUNTY’S DESK ☕️

There is quite a mixed masala of work happening behind the scenes at Pathway Solutions and The Practical AI Aunty right now.

Here is what is currently on Aunty’s desk:

• Creating a new logo and business card for a business that needs a clear, professional identity

• Developing a new logo and full brand identity for a business preparing to relaunch on social media

• Creating a social media strategy for an individual who wants to build a purposeful and consistent online presence

• Developing a proposal for a final-year BCom Law student

• Developing a separate proposal for a final-year LLB Law student

• Creating a personalised learning pathway to help a young person explore suitable tertiary study options

• Testing an AI-assisted job-search method for job seekers on behalf of The Firm Foundation Alliance

• Creating regular social media content for the FFA Youth WhatsApp Channel, the Women’s Initiative , and Wednesday Family Fast & Prayer Day

• Assisting with the strategy for rolling out a discipleship course for The Firm Foundation Alliance

• Developing The Hustler’s Health Clinic to support young entrepreneurs in building healthier businesses and more sustainable lives

The projects may look very different, but the work is grounded in the same purpose: creating clarity, equipping people and building practical pathways to growth and opportunity.

Aunty’s tip: AI can hallucinate with remarkable confidence — always check the facts before the nonsense makes it into the final draft. 😌

We've launched our first 3 job traps for Method 1 and are waiting expectantly for the test results 🙌🏾

The Job Trap is being tested 👀
The goal is simple:
to help individual job seekers set up a clearer, more consistent way to search for jobs, track opportunities, avoid duplication, and apply with better focus.
We are testing it with real searches first, because practical tools must work in real life — not just look clever on paper.
