Pedal for Wilbur

Pedal for Wilbur I’m Emma, proud mum of Wilbur, my little warrior who was born with Bilateral Clubfoot.

Through this campaign, I aim to raise awareness about Clubfoot and fundraise for STEPS South Africa, an incredible charity that supports children with this condition.

10th sportive complete. So much reflection on this last sportive. did it again with a smashing event. I ended up doing the short route. It was the hardest one to date but I gave it my all. I kept thinking I was a failure for not doing enough and finishing the medium. Then I reminded myself that I had to stay positive to finish in a positive headspace. If you know you know…. 💙🚲 Jacks voice kept repeating over and over in my head. “Remember why you are doing this to raise money and show our son the sky’s the limit.” Each long distance cycle gives me a life lesson. This one was… do what you set your mind out to do and if you have to change the boundaries of that goal don’t be hard on yourself. Be proud that you tried.

2nd sportive of the month…9th in total this year 😅 All for trying to raise money for children born with Clubfoot in South Africa!

Haha this one was tough. I went in to it thinking it can’t be as hilly as the Brecon Beacons. I was so wrong haha. First 65km were hard but okay but then I hit a wall and more hills. That last 10km felt like it was never going to end.

Little Wilbur’s smile to me when I was just about to set off seriously kept me motivated. The way his eyes curl up and cheeks go up. I don’t think I could have done it if it wasn’t for that image of that cheeky smile in my head.

Another perfect evening. 🐎

Jack walking with Wilbur for his first seaside swim will forever be a highlight. Summer has treated us to all kinds of warmth. One being Wilbur stepping into the world with feet so strong no one would think he’s had casts, an operation or wears his boots and bar at night. My clubfoot baby has got so many more steps to take in life but he’s one of the lucky ones. So let’s recap… 🚲

January: 107km, Westerley Winter Warmer, Chalfont Saint Giles

February: 81km, Winter Warm Up, Darlington

March: 109km, Cape Town Cycle Tour

April: 127km, UKCE New Forest Classic, Southampton, Hampshire

May: 104km, Cotswolds 100 Sportive, Gloucestershire

June: 87km, BHF London to Brighton Bike Ride

July: 84km, The Canterbury Bike Ride, Kent

August: 83km, Brecon Beacons Devil Sportive, Hay on Wye, Powys

All for raising money for babies born with Clubfoot in South Africa. By donating on my GivenGain Foundation page you will help towards funding a child’s full treatment for Clubfoot with …your generosity goes such a long way. Seeing my little boy walking motivates me even more to try raise money. We all deserve to thrive in this world. Running after balls, falling into soft grass, learning to ride a bike. Let’s help our future generation of Clubfoot babies today. 💙🚲👣

I completed my sportive for July last week Sunday cycling around the incredible Kent at an event called The Canterbury Bike Ride. It was beautiful especially passing the vineyards. If you would like to support children in South Africa born with Clubfoot please see the link on my profile page. We are not all blessed with the NHS and STEPS help fund and support children’s Clubfoot treatment.

Highly recommend this sportive it was fantastic and so well organised. Thank you! Iconic Cycling Events
