Ep4: Beachbum Safari - Zona Braza to Tofo 🏝️

A luxury stay, an elaborate gate, a mango tree, a town in ruins, chatty locals, a rickety bridge, a tropical mangrove, a shipwreck, a run in with the police, a beachfront stay and a festive night market.

Ep3: Beachbum Safari - Bilene to Zona Braza ☀️
A poor prognosis for the Husqvarna 901 Expedition; getting lost; a mad dune; gatecrashing a luxury beach resort; bushwhacking; a slithery encounter and a Christmas Eve Casa -
Watch this before buying a KTM 500 or Husqvarna 501.

Ep2: Beachbum Safari
Macaneta to Bilene on a Husqvarna FE 501 Norden 901 Expedition - this is Day Two of Beachbum Safari.

A quick note on the 901's diving suspension:
We rode in wet, muddy conditions yesterday and woke up to leaking fork seals this morning - particularly on the right-side fork leg of the 901. The 901 has dedicated compression and rebound per fork leg - left is compression, right is rebound. In hindsight, the forks weren't fully rebounding due to significant loss of oil. This meant the fork was packing which forces the weight bias onto the front. A killer in sandy conditions - particularly on a heavily loaded bike. Practically unrideable.

Managed to dodge any potential landmines and made it to beautiful Bilene for an afternoon lunch on the lago (lagoon).

Tomorrow we head further North up the coast.

Katse Dam to Afriski Off-road | Explore Lesotho Ep.7

This episode takes us deeper into the heart of Lesotho, from the chaos of Lejone to remote gravel tracks, high-altitude passes and the roof of the Mountain Kingdom.

After leaving Katse Dam behind, we dropped onto some of the most unforgettable Advenduro terrain of the trip.
Smooth flowing gravel gave way to rutted mountain tracks, technical sections shaped by rain and livestock, and wide-open highlands where the only thing between us and Afriski was throttle and horsepower.

We climbed over Tlaeeng Pass, one of the highest tarred roads in Africa, carving twisties at altitude before rolling into Afriski, the highest resort in Southern Africa.

But as always, Lesotho had one final surprise waiting.
Ryno almost ran out of fuel & with Nico’s bike refusing to start and nearly 100km between us and the next town, the day didn’t quite end the way we expected.

Sani to Katse Dam | Explore Lesotho Ep.5

This episode of our Lesotho Adventure Series takes us deep into the heart of the Mountain Kingdom, from Masoba-Soba Lodge at the top of Sani Pass, across the thin-air heights of Black Mountain Pass, and all the way to the mighty Katse Dam.

We woke up to a frozen sunrise at 2,800m, frost on the bags, sheep pouring out of their kraals, and a golden Lesotho skyline that felt unreal.
From there, the route climbed straight into the sky, Kotisephola (Black Mountain) Pass, one of the highest tarred passes in Southern Africa at 3,240m with over 130 bends carved into the basalt ridges.

From the summit’s iconic yellow frame, we dropped into the valleys, dodging sheep, cows, donkeys, and construction crews working on the massive Senqu River Bridge.
Then came the twisties, the dodgy shortcut, and the freshly tarred roads that once used to be pure gravel.

And finally… we descended onto the huge concrete arc of Katse Dam, the engineering heart of Lesotho and the centrepiece of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
Standing 185m tall and stretching nearly 700m across, Katse supplies more than half of Gauteng’s water and powers most of Lesotho through the Muela Hydropower Station.

This episode ends at our lunch stop overlooking the dam, because the next chapter takes us onto the longest gravel section of our entire Lesotho trip, tracing the shoreline from Katse to Lejone.
