# # Lodge Guest Sentenced for Stealing Towels, Bedsheets, and More in Bulawayo

A 24-year-old man from Entumbane, Witness Sibanda, is facing the consequences of his actions after being convicted of theft from two Harris Lodges in Bulawayo. Sibanda's thieving spree involved a range of items, from towels and bedsheets to light bulbs and even a solar panel, resulting in a total loss of US$480 for lodge owner Byron Rice.

The brazen thefts occurred last week. Sibanda, posing as a regular guest, was apprehended while attempting to flee the lodge with his stolen goods. His ill-gotten gains included towels, bed linen, light bulbs, a solar panel, a cup, and a plate. Alert lodge security, aided by the neighbourhood watch committee, thwarted his escape and apprehended him. Armed detectives later arrived to formally arrest Sibanda. All stolen items were recovered.

Appearing before Magistrate Eva Matura, Sibanda pleaded guilty. In a desperate attempt to garner leniency, he revealed that he was unmarried and had a six-year-old child to support, claiming he only stole the items for personal use. However, the Magistrate remained unmoved by his plea.

Sibanda received a 12-month prison sentence. Three months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behavior, while the remaining nine months were commuted to 315 hours of community service at Siyazama Primary School. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of theft, regardless of personal circumstances.

FMG: A Thriving Business Empire Forged in Adversity

Fast Moving Goods (FMG) stands as a testament to entrepreneurial resilience and vision. Born in 2021 amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this Zimbabwean business, founded by Simbarashe Mugabe and his team, has blossomed from a humble table at Bulawayo's former Brooklyn bus terminus into a diversified commercial powerhouse across Matebeleland.

Initially operating an over-the-counter model, FMG quickly evolved into a network of tuckshops in Bulawayo's central business district. In 2024, the company significantly expanded its reach by venturing into the supermarket sector, opening its first store in Nketa 9. Remarkably, within a year, FMG now operates four supermarkets, strategically located in Sokusile, Pumula South, Cowdry Park, and Tshabalala. These supermarkets offer a comprehensive range of goods, including dairy, meat, liquor, vegetables, and even hardware.

FMG's success isn't limited to retail. The company has cleverly diversified into agriculture, with initiatives in cattle breeding, piggery, and crop husbandry. Further diversifying its portfolio, FMG also operates butcheries, a bar, and a hardware shop. This strategic expansion showcases a keen understanding of market needs and a commitment to growth.

Leading FMG is Mugabe, a visionary leader with a diploma in accountancy from Bulawayo Polytechnic. His financial acumen is instrumental in maintaining the company's stability and prosperity. With a vision to serve its communities and expand throughout Matebeleland, FMG is clearly committed to building a lasting legacy. The addition of a hardware shop in June 2023 and a bar and butchery in Cowdray Park in April 2025 further underscores the company's rapid expansion and ambition. FMG's story is one of triumph over adversity, demonstrating the power of determination and innovative business strategy in a challenging economic environment.

Victoria Falls Experiences International Tourism Boom as European Interest Surges

Victoria Falls is witnessing a significant uplift in tourism, primarily driven by a surge in international arrivals, as stated by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) on Monday. International visitor numbers soared to 47,633 in 2025, a notable increase from 44,110 the previous year. This growth, however, stands in contrast to a decline in domestic tourism, which saw figures drop from 15,608 in 2024 to 13,506 this year.

Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo attributed the international interest largely to European markets. “Key source markets driving international interest in Victoria Falls include Europe—particularly the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany—largely due to the availability of dedicated tour packages,” Farawo commented.

He further highlighted that "enhanced accessibility, following the expansion of Victoria Falls Airport and the introduction of new routes including direct flights from Frankfurt, had further fuelled interest from German tourists." The KAZA UniVisa, which simplifies cross-border travel between Zimbabwe and Zambia, has also played a “pivotal role.” Regionally, South Africa remains the leading source of visitors, followed closely by Botswana, contributing to the continued growth of the iconic destination's tourism sector.

IMAGINE walking into a hospital with chest pains, only to have the “doctor” hand you a prescription for Lacto, apples and grapes.
Not medication — actual fruits and a dairy product! This is the beautiful madness that finally exposed Prosper Vanhuvaone, alias Dr Prosper Mpofu, a fake medical practitioner who played doctor for nearly two years at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo.

✏ Wild Fruits and Plants Inspire Beauty Line

Growing up in rural Kezi, Langelihle Sibanda enjoyed the bounty of nature, including bush melon and other wild fruits and plants. Now, these childhood staples form the foundation of her innovative makeup and food line, House of Langa.

Sibanda, a former model who represented Zimbabwe at Miss Universe in 1996, recalled the struggle to find makeup that matched her skin tone. "I introduced a mineral makeup line that celebrates dark skin," she explained. "The idea came when I was modelling... I remember struggling to find makeup that matched my skin tone. That experience drove me to create a line that embraces and honours dark skin tones.”

Recognizing the potential of often-discarded fruit and vegetable parts, Sibanda began incorporating them into her beauty and food products. This not only reduces waste but also creates employment opportunities for local communities. "House of Langa believes in community building," she stated, emphasizing her commitment to sourcing ingredients like hibiscus from her birthplace in Kezi and other areas like Binga. "I never imagined that one day I would use a Marula tree or umkhuna to create beautiful products,” she shared. “We are slowly replacing foreign products with our indigenous ones because we now understand the qualities they offer.”

Initially, Sibanda faced skepticism about the viability of a local beauty brand. "People had doubts. They wondered who would support a local beauty brand," she recalled. However, confident in the quality of her products, she invested in premium packaging and branding. "The quality inside gives women the confidence they deserve,” she affirmed.

House of Langa has since expanded to include a food line featuring products like Kalahari Melon Delight (a chutney made from wild melon rind), Marula nuts, rosella tea, honey, jams, and umkhuna butter. This expansion aims to minimize food waste and maximize the use of each ingredient.
