If viewers enjoy fantasy martial arts then catch the raucous and crazy sequel to Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II in cinemas now.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat II has the added attraction of New Zealand actor Karl Urban as washed up 1990's martial arts star Johnny Cage who gets embroiled in the inter realm rivalry of Mortal Kombat.

For those that enjoyed the first film, then the sequel is entertaining although the storyline is superficial.

Mortal Kombat II gets a film rating of 6.5 out of 10 and is definitely a fun popcorn film for a Saturday afternoon at the cinema if you don't get stuck in traffic like I did.

Catch the excellent musical biopic Michael now showing in cinemas.

Jaafar Jackson plays a version of his famous uncle Michael Jackson, the king of Pop while Colman Domingo steals the show as the ruthless patriarch of the Jackson Five, Joseph Jackson.

Michael gets a film rating of 8 out of 10 and is a glossy musical biopic expertly directed by Antoine Fuqua and held together by a solid script by John Logan set in America in the 1980's.

Recommended viewing.

If you enjoy a standard action film then catch Brothers Under Fire about an American army squadron that go to a Mexican wedding whereby all hell breaks lose.

The Highland Film Group does not make high art but they know how to make entertaining films and Brothers Under Fire is no exception.

Directed by Justin Chadwick, Brothers Under Fire gets a film rating of 7 out of 10 and is an enjoyable action film with Kiefer Sutherland as the battle weary Captain Jordan Wright.

Catch the Magic Faraway Tree in cinemas now - this British fantasy film based on a novel by Children's author is not that bad, but it is not brilliant either.

The fantasy scenes are quite strange yet the pastoral scenes in the English countryside are beautiful.

The Magic Faraway Tree gets a film rating of 6 out of 10. It is enjoyable but no masterpiece.

Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director, Chloe Zhao follows up Nomadland with Hamnet, a literary masterpiece of acting, costumes and production design set in Elizabethan England in Stratford upon Avon and London.

Hamnet gets a film rating of 9.5 out of 10 and is absolutely superb.
Highly recommended viewing for lovers of literary films and
Shakespeare. Take tissues with you.

It's not too late to catch Kate Hudson's Oscar nominated performance as Claire, a struggling impersonator who meets up with Mike an equally struggling artist as they navigate the pitfalls of being almost famous in the heartfelt musical drama Song Sung Blue still showing in cinemas.

Director Craig Brewer's film Song Sung Blue lacks the technicality to make it a masterpiece but as an unpretentious musical drama it is a perfect popular film featuring a superb performance by Kate Hudson, daughter of Hollywood star Goldie Hawn.

Song Sung Blue gets a film rating of 7 out of 10 and is recommended viewing but it is by no means a musical masterpiece of cinema.
