Hello Glenwood
This Women's Month's edition celebrates the women of Glenwood. We could have filled all eight pages or run to 40 pages to celebrate the women who build community in Glenwood - organising, leading, inspiring, caring, and creating community. We curated a small selection from all the women we are proud to have as neighbours and friends.
We give you a heads up about the Glenwood Book Fair which will take place at the end of September over the Heritage weekend. This year's Book Fair will feature dozens of authors, children's storytelling, a craft and vintage market, and two dinners - one at the KZNSA on Friday night and the second at the Poke Box on Saturday night. The dinners are the only ticketed events during Book Fair, everything else is free. Expect author panel discussions, author signings, read aloud stories to children and spoken word poetry. If you would like to participate in Book Fair, the details are in the magazine.
Two stories in the edition invite community participation. We're excited that there is now an ewaste receptacle at Stella Sports Club for Glenwoodians to dispose of our electronic waste safely. And we invite you to contribute to the Homeland Security Community Ambulance Fund to send help when it is needed most.
The Glenwood UIP is still marvelling at the succesful turnout for the Mandela Day celebrations in July. Watching all generations enjoy the winter sun and live classical and jazz music in a sparkling and clean Bulwer Park was the highlight.
This month the Glenwood UIP shares with us how urban design can protect women and children, starting with lighting up spaces such as Bulwer Park and deploying its stewards to be "eyes on the street".
Enjoy the edition and see you at the second annual Glenwood Book Fair. It starts on Thursday, Heritage Day at the Umbilo Library auditorum in Bulwer Park, moves to Mazisi Kunene Museum on Friday morning, then on to the KZNSA Friday afternoon before two days of the Fair at Phansi Museum on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 September. The craft and vintage market will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Let's get ready for Spring.
