We are having a one-week 4IR bootcamp focused on coding, robotics, and Scratch for participants aged 8 to 18, we will structure the program to make it engaging, age-appropriate, and hands-on. Here's a detailed plan:
Duration: 1 week (5 days, 6 hours per day).
Age Groups: 8-12 years old (Focus on Scratch, basic robotics, and introductory coding).
13-18 years old (Focus on more advanced coding, robotics, and real-world applications).
1. Scratch Coding (for 8-12 year olds):
Day 1-3: Basic programming concepts using Scratch (loops, variables, conditionals) Create interactive stories, animations, and simple games.
Day 4-5: Collaborative projects in Scratch to build more complex games or simulations. Showcase their creations at the end of the week.
Day 1: Introduction to Spike Prime & 4IR Concepts - Introduction to LEGO Spike Prime: Explore the hardware (motors, sensors, programmable hub). Basic coding concepts using the Spike Prime app (block-based programming).
Using Spike Prime, build a simple robot (e.g., a driving base).
Program the robot to perform basic movements (move forward, backward, turn).
Day 2: Programming Basics with Spike Prime - Learn about sensors (color, distance, force) and how to use them in projects.
Challenge: Program the robot to follow a line using the color sensor. Experiment with different sensor inputs to make the robot respond to the environment.
Day 3: Intermediate Robotics Programming - Introduction to loops, conditionals, and variables in Spike Prime. Explore how to make robots perform repetitive tasks and respond to specific conditions.
Project: Program the robot to navigate through a maze or obstacle course using sensors. Group work and testing to improve robot performance.
Day 4: Advanced Robotics & Problem Solving - Creating custom blocks, multi-tasking. Work on collaborative group projects, integrating multiple sensors and motors.
Challenge: Build and program a robot to solve a specific problem, such as sorting objects by color or delivering an object to a designated location.
Day 5: Capstone Project & Presentation - Finalize group projects, integrating all the concepts learned throughout the week. Test and refine projects in preparation for presentations.
Presentations: Each group presents their Spike Prime robot and explains the coding and design choices they made.
Fun competition: Have the robots compete in challenges like speed races or obstacle navigation.
