The Lions Club of Mitchells Plain continues to support youth development through the gift of reading. 💙💛

Today, 21 August 2026, Lion Gerry and Lion Moira handed over books to Little Wood Primary School in Eastridge as part of our ongoing Books Project for Youth.

The principal was extremely excited and grateful for the donation, especially as the school is currently building up their library. This donation will help create more opportunities for learners to read, learn, grow and dream bigger.

The school is still in need of more books, and they truly appreciate every contribution that helps them strengthen their library for the benefit of their learners.

Thank you to Lion Gerry and Lion Moira for representing our club with heart and continuing to make a difference through service.

When we give children access to books, we help open the door to knowledge, imagination and possibility.

The Lions Club of Mitchells Plain continues to invest in the future of our youth through the power of reading. 💙💛

On 18 August 2026, Lions President Hajiera completed another meaningful book handover at Portland Primary School, where books were handed over to Mrs Kolbe, a Grade 4 teacher and library coordinator.

Through this project, 570 Grade 3 to Grade 7 learners were reached today. Since the start of this book initiative last year, a total of 830 learners at Portland Primary School are now benefiting from the books donated and handed over.

The club has already served 5 primary schools, with the aim of reaching 7 schools soon and eventually supporting all grades. Mitchells Plain has 47 primary schools with over 50 000 learners enrolled, and we are on a mission to give our youth the opportunity to dream big by developing a love for reading.

A heartfelt thank you to the Blumenthal family for the generous book donation, and to Leonore Bain, retired librarian, for assisting with sorting the books so that we could deliver a dignified service to children who are truly deserving of it.

Books that were tattered were sent for recycling, adding an environmental impact to this project as well.

When we place books in the hands of children, we open doors to imagination, learning and possibility.
