The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate wishes to advise residents and affected stakeholders of a planned electricity shutdown to allow for essential maintenance and repairs to the electricity network.

🚨 8 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN BAPSFONTEIN WITH BLUE LIGHTS, FI****MS AND POLICE EQUIPMENT

Eight men aged between 31 and 52 have been arrested in Bapsfontein following a joint operation involving the EMPD, SAPS, TMPD and private security.

During the operation, officers stopped and searched two vehicles after receiving information about suspicious vehicles.

Police recovered:
🔹 Unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition
🔹 SAPS, EMPD and JMPD uniforms
🔹 Blue lights
🔹 Police radios and equipment

One vehicle was found to be cloned, with the rightful owner reportedly driving the same vehicle in the Western Cape. Both vehicles were also found with false registration plates.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Welbekend SAPS and are expected to appear in court.

📑 | 🚨 OPERATION PROSPER: OVER 120 SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL MINING | Mohlakeng, West Rand District
A multidisciplinary operation under has resulted in the arrest of 121 suspects for illegal mining, possession of gold-bearing material, and contravention of the Immigration Act on Friday, 10 July 2026.
The suspects include 18 Lesotho, 37 Zimbabwean, 28 Mozambican, 33 Malawian nationals, and 7 South African citizens.
Police seized mining equipment (generators, jackhammers, etc.), explosives, vehicles (Honda CR-V and Volkswagen Polo), cash, and other items.
The Hard Take:
This is a solid operation. Illegal mining is a massive criminal enterprise destroying land, communities, and the economy. The large number of foreign nationals involved shows how deeply entrenched these syndicates are. Good work by SAPS and SANDF — but we need consistent, aggressive action to truly end this scourge.

🚨 SAPS DESTROYS NEARLY 12,000 FI****MS

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is today destroying 11,859 fi****ms and firearm parts as part of its ongoing efforts to remove illegal weapons from circulation.

The fi****ms being destroyed include:
🔫 9,596 handguns (81%)
🔫 1,102 rifles (9%)
🔫 798 shotguns (6.7%)
🔫 363 firearm combinations and parts

According to SAPS, the fi****ms were confiscated during police operations, voluntarily surrendered, handed in during firearm amnesties, or forfeited to the State.

Since 2019, SAPS has destroyed 317,811 fi****ms nationwide.

The destruction coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Destruction of Small Arms and Light Weapons, observed annually on 9 July.

🚨 SUSPENDED EMPD DEPUTY CHIEF JULIUS MKHWANAZI FACES MULTIPLE ALLEGATIONS

Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi, who was reportedly arrested overnight, is facing a range of criminal charges and allegations that have come under scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission.

According to reports, the allegations include:

▪️ Allegedly orchestrating a staged police raid in Killarney in 2023 to unlawfully seize valuable sugilite stones.
▪️ Admitting to receiving cash from alleged drug cartel figure Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
▪️ Allegedly facilitating the unlawful registration of Matlala's security vehicles as municipal vehicles fitted with police blue lights.
▪️ Allegations by former EMPD officials that he led a rogue unit involved in truck hijackings, copper theft, extortion and the concealment of a murder.
▪️ Allegedly ordering the disposal of the body of a torture victim. Whistleblower Marius van der Merwe, who testified about these claims, was later murdered.
▪️ Facing charges alongside Ekurhuleni Municipal Manager Kagiso Lerutla in connection with allegations that a civilian was paid to impersonate Lerutla in court. Both are currently out on bail in that matter.
▪️ Allegedly fast-tracking 55 promotions within the EMPD to place loyalists in key positions.

Several of these matters were raised during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission.

According to eNCA reporter P**e Jones, Mkhwanazi is expected to face further arrests as additional investigations continue. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has also been investigating him.

Suspended City of Ekurhuleni Head of Legal Services, Advocate Kemi Behari, has reportedly been arrested, according to eNCA.

Behari, who appeared before the Madlanga Commission earlier this year, was reportedly taken into custody following his disciplinary hearing this afternoon.

The reported arrest is linked to allegations that he failed to implement a council resolution to institute disciplinary action against suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.

Further details are expected as the matter develops.
