*Woman mauled by Dogs in Tongaat*

A 42-year-old woman was attacked by two dogs in Belverdere, Tongaat, on Friday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they received a call for urgent medical assistance at around 15:14 after the woman was mauled on Hercus Avenue.

On arrival, paramedics found she had a fracture to her left arm and a bite wound on her forearm. She was treated at the scene and transported to hospital.

According to RUSA, the woman had arrived at the property to visit a friend who is a tenant. After opening the entrance gate, a male and female Bull Terrier cross charged at her. In the chaos, she fell down a flight of stairs.

Her friend rushed to help after hearing her screams and managed to pull the dogs away.

Police are expected to investigate the incident.

Cops bust Dagga deal duo

By Ethel Malatji

Two men, aged between 50 and 55, are expected to appear in the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Friday for allegedly dealing in dagga in Kauletsi village, Witpoort policing area.

Police said the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday involving Witpoort visible policing members and the Lephalale K9 unit. Officers acted on information about suspects allegedly selling dagga in the area.

The pair were caught with 24 sachets and 19 plastic bags of dagga, worth an estimated R29 500.

In another bust, Vhembe District Flying Squad officers found five abandoned bags of dagga weighing 140.5 kg in Musina Phase 8 between Wednesday morning and the early hours of Thursday. The suspect was not found. The value of the drugs is still being determined.

Illegal miner nabbed at Tours Mountain

By Ethel Malatji

One man has been arrested and illegal mining equipment seized after police pounced on gold miners at Tours Mountain in the Mopani District.

The bust happened on Wednesday when the Vala Umgodi task team, working with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, staged a waylay targeting illegal gold mining.

Four men were spotted digging for gold. One was caught, while the others fled. Officers seized tools including a shovel, two pickaxes, 5 litres of petrol, a panga, a bucket, water boots, a generator and a screwdriver.

Police said the operation was part of their fight to protect natural resources and clamp down on illegal mining.

Residents are urged to report suspicious mining activities.
