The Democratic Alliance in the Polokwane council has called for Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe to sack Transport MMC Desmond Moloto.

This comes after Moloto was arrested and charged by the police on allegations that are yet to be disclosed.

Moloto was arrested last week by the police and remanded in custody for a period.

DA councillor Jacques Joubert says they want the mayor and the council to remove Moloto until all allegations against him are cleared. Joubert says they cannot have criminals at the forefront of service delivery in the city.

THREE MEN, INCLUDING A FOREIGNER NABBED AFTER A PORSCHE STOLEN IN ZEBEDIELA FOUND STRIPPED IN NIRVANA

NIRVANA : A luxury black Porsche Cayenne, reported stolen, was discovered stripped and chopped into parts at a workshop at Nirvana in Polokwane during an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Wednesday, 09 July.

This breakthrough led to the arrest of three suspects, including the workshop owner.

Upon arrival, the team found the high-end Porsche Cayenne already dismantled in the backyard of the workshop.

Preliminary investigations confirmed the vehicle had been stolen in May 2025 in the Zebediela policing area.

Further search of the premises led to the recovery of a second vehicle — a white Toyota Tazz — which had been reported stolen in October 2024 in the Seshego policing area.

Three male suspects, aged between 35 and 49, were immediately apprehended.

Among them is a 49-year-old foreign national who owns the workshop. He was found to be in the country illegally, and an additional charge for contravening the Immigration Act will be added.

A case of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles has been opened at Westernburg SAPS.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 11 July 2025.

*BREAKING NEWS*

Greater Letaba local Municipality - Modjadjiskloof (Limpopo)

*Confirmed* :

Greater Letaba local Municipality is technically bankrupt - this situation doesn't only affect this municipality infact a number of Municipalities are faced with a similar situation

As things stands at the moment Greater Letaba local Municipality bank accounts have almost dried up and if the situation stay unchanged it will not be able to pay the employees salaries this month end of July amid looming money waiting to be received from National Treasury in the form of equitable share

Unfortunately things have went from bad to worse

The Municipality incurred a huge debt in unpaid debt of R69 Million owed to Lepelle Water for services it received

Information at our disposal reveals that the municipality has not been paying Lepelle Water for a while as to why they failed to pay reasons are not known at this stage and this situation has put the municipality at a difficult situation. At the same time Lepelle desperately needs their money to meet their obligations. This situation might affect Municipality not to receive their expected equitable share from National Treasury unless arrangements are met between Lepelle water and Greater Letaba local Municipality

It's also alleged that Municipality was due to pay the employees pension funds not later than the 7th which happens every month. At this stage it's not clear if the municipality managed to honour that deadline payment given their financial difficulties

Last month service providers including essential service providers such security and other contractors were not payed full amount of their invoice due to tight budget in their bank account

The worse is to come ahead. The municipality is also faced with higher payroll for the month of July reason been almost 70 % of their employees are due to receive their 13th cheque this month end. At this stage it's not clear if the municipality will be in a position to honour their financial obligations come month end

Managed to speak to some financial experts with sound knowledge experience in running the municipality and asked them what will cause the municipality to be faced with this kind of a situation this is their response:

Poor administration and Management is one major cause which has been proven across most Municipalities faced with this kind of a situation. A competent Municipal Manager and Chief Financial Officer are key in managing the municipality finances including taking informed decisions

Earlier this week finance minister Enoch Gondongwana said if any municipality which fail to pay it's debt the creditors or service providers must attach their assets. The national treasury is no longer going to entertain those who mis-manage their funds

Our investigation can further reveal that the current situation at Greater Letaba local Municipality was caused by reckless expenditure as a result of preparing the previous Norman Mashabane Regional Elective Conference in order to re-elect the current leadership including that of Greater Letaba local Municipality

This also includes inflating higher prices on most of their projects and services rendered to the municipality

Our findings can also confirm that security contract pricing was priced at R11k per each security personnel payed by municipality however this was increased to R18K. Reason for such a reckless adjustment is as a result of money payed back to municipal officials in the form of kick backs on a monthly basis

Despite all the financial crisis faced by the municipality. Last week the municipality just hired additional 11 new general workers of which 3 out of 11 were found to be having criminal records instead 8 received official appointment letters

Again the municipality has advertised another additional 11 General Worker positions and the closing date is 1st August 2025 at 15H00. In Total Municipality is looking to add another additional 22 General Workers on their payroll

The current financial crisis and payment of staff salaries come month end the fate remains in the hands of National Treasury.
