The Toyota Supra and the Nissan GT-R are two of Japan’s most iconic performance cars, but they have very different ways of achieving speed, handling, and driving feel.

The Toyota Supra, especially the modern GR Supra developed with BMW, is a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports car that focuses on balance and agility. It features a turbocharged inline-six engine that produces around 382 horsepower in U.S. specifications, paired with either an automatic or manual transmission. The Supra is compact and sharp, designed for driving engagement with quick steering, strong mid-range acceleration, and playful handling dynamics. It may not be the fastest car in a straight line compared to the GT-R, but it offers a more connected sports car experience.

The Nissan GT-R, often called “Godzilla,” is heavier by comparison. It’s an all-wheel-drive supercar powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 that produces over 565 horsepower in its standard version and even more in NISMO variants. The GT-R excels in brutal acceleration, its advanced all-wheel-drive system, and sophisticated electronics that make it fast and stable, even for less experienced drivers. It feels bigger and heavier than the Supra, with a strong focus on technology, but it surpasses the Supra in straight-line speed and grip.

Where the Supra highlights driver engagement, lightweight agility, and classic sports car traits, the GT-R emphasizes raw power, modern technology, and top-tier performance.

If you want a car that’s playful, relatively affordable, and enjoyable to drive every day, the Supra stands out. If you prioritize extreme speed, advanced engineering, and capability in various weather conditions, the GT-R takes the lead.
