Three people have died following a crash involving two bakkies on the N4 near Middelburg Dam. The crash happened at about 11h30.

The driver of the bakkie that was coming from the direction of Mbombela allegedly lost control of the vehicle and went on the oncoming traffic lanes. It then collided with the other bakkie that was coming from the direction of Emalahleni.

Three people, a male driver and two passengers of which one of them was a young boy and the other a female lost their lives on impact.

Two young girls who were seriously injured, a male driver and two passengers, a female and a young boy with slight injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital.

An investigation on the crash is underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison sends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to those injured.

71 year old Acornhoek gogo sentenced to 20 years for murder

A 71 year old woman, Elina Magagula, has been sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment for murder. Magagula was sentenced together with her co-accused Pleasure Ngobeni (35) yesterday by the Nelspruit Regional Court.

This following their arrest in 2009 after they beat up a woman who had confronted them for allegedly stealing her cattle in Acornhoek. During the confrontation an argument started and the three accused, Solly Zitha, Pleasure Ngobeni, and Elina Magagule, started assaulting the deceased. She succumbed to her injuries and the three accused were arrested the following day and later released on bail. The matter was investigated by the local police and the deceased family was not satisfied with the progress. The matter was then transferred to the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation to investigate the matter further.

The matter was finalized, and the accused were sentenced as follows:

Elina Magagule(71) was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment, and Pleasure Ngobeni(35) was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Solly Zitha passed on in 2024 before the commencement of the trial.

Nkomazi serial ra**st sentenced to life plus ten years

Residents of Jeppes Reef in Nkomazi may finally find some relief after the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court handed down four life sentences and an additional 10 years to convicted ra**st, Bongani Thembinkosi Nkosi (34)

Nkosi’s conviction follows a series of brutal r**e cases that terrorised women in Jeppes Reef between 2016 and 2019. According to evidence presented in court, Nkosi and accomplices targeted homes at night, breaking in, assaulting occupants, demanding valuables and then dragging female victims outside where they were repeatedly r**ed them.
