It was an honour to be part of the Open Book Festival this year, as we launched the latest English Alive anthology and paid tribute to Robin Malan. It was also incredible to host Siphokazi Jonas. The event was “sold out” and the young writers blew us all away. Thank you to all the people who made it happen.

Brian Wilson gave me one of my favourite memories. He stopped by the Expresso Morning Show - SABC 3 studios during The Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary world tour, and it was a big deal, as they were one of the first world-famous acts we had on the show. I was working at my desk on a little notebook laptop. I think it was like 8 inches. He was fascinated by how tiny it was and fiddled with it as he asked about it. He was so warm, kind and encouraging, and I couldn’t believe that THE Beach Boy had just touched my computer. RIP Mr Wilson.
