🚨 Trump’s DOJ Wants Voter Data — But States Are Saying “Not So Fast” 🗳️🛑
State officials across the US are sounding the alarm after President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice started requesting massive amounts of voter data — and no one’s sure what they plan to do with it. 🤔📂
Over the past three months, the DOJ’s Voting Section has contacted at least 15 states, asking for voter rolls, data on potential federal voting law violators, and details about how states remove ineligible voters. 😳💾
Traditionally, the Voting Section works to protect voting rights, but under Trump’s new executive order, it’s now focused on voter fraud — something Trump has repeatedly exaggerated as a national crisis. 🧾⚠️
But officials aren’t convinced. Some say the DOJ is demanding too much, including private voter information that can't legally be shared without congressional oversight. 🕵️♀️🔐
👉 Utah’s Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson said “No thanks” when asked to hand over protected details on 2.1 million voters.
“We’ve offered the public list. If they want sensitive data, there’s a legal process,” she said. 📜
In California, DOJ officials reportedly asked four counties for the ID numbers, birth dates, and voting records of people removed from rolls as noncitizens. 😱📉
💬 Meanwhile, in Colorado, the DOJ asked for “all records” related to the 2024 election — that includes ballots, voting machines, and even archived documents from 2020. 🗂️🖥️
This push comes not long after the Colorado Supreme Court tried (unsuccessfully) to bar Trump from the 2024 ballot, citing his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. 🏛️⚖️
🗣️ In Maine, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows rejected the DOJ’s request outright.
“It seems like they’re more interested in keeping people from voting than in encouraging participation,” she said. 😤🗳️
Bellows also questioned the scope of the effort:
“Why on Earth does the DOJ need voter data from all 50 states?” 🌍
States like Arizona, Connecticut, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin have reportedly received similar requests. 🗺️📥
Despite there being no confirmed evidence of widespread voter fraud in either the 2020 or 2024 elections, Trump continues to claim they were “rigged” and that undocumented immigrants voted. 🧟♂️🗳️
The DOJ says it’s trying to enforce federal election laws, but the scale and secrecy behind these demands have many questioning the true motive. 🔍🇺🇸
