Today's Verse
They are like a tree that
grows next to a stream of water, and which gives fruit at the right time and always has green leaves.
They succeed in everything they do.

Morning Prayer

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” ⏤ Romans 8:15

The greatest privilege of prayer is not what you can get from God, but simply to be with God. ⏤ A.W. Tozer

It is a great comfort, our Father, to always be able to come to You with our needs. It is reassuring to know that You are truly our Father. We understand something of what fatherhood means to a child, and it is wonderful to know that You are our divine Father, not just in name, but in all that a father can be to a child—You are to us, and even more, as Your divinity is greater than humanity. Help us to know You as our Father, to trust in Your fatherly love for us, and in Your fatherly care.

Grant us the spirit of being Your children, the spirit of adoption, that we may look up to You and say, "Abba, Father!" May we be obedient children, doing all that You ask us to do. May we honor You as children are taught to honor their parents. May our commitment and our actions be worthy of You. Let us never do anything that would bring dishonor to You. May Your image be reflected in our lives so clearly and brightly that everyone who sees us will see Your divine fatherly qualities shining through us.

Today, as we go out into the world, we ask that we may indeed go as Your children. We will need Your protection. The world is full of dangers, subtle enemies, insidious influences, and crafty evils. We cannot take care of ourselves—so we ask You to take care of us. Hide us away in the secret of Your presence, from the strife of tongues.

We will need Your sustaining grace for every step of the way—grace upon grace. Just as the flowers cannot live without Heaven's dew, rain, and sunshine—so neither can we live without Your love and strength. Fill us with Your Spirit. Pour Your love into our hearts. Then we will be able to live lives worthy of Your children. We ask all this in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

Today's Daily Nugget

If the most precious things are tested in the fire, why would we expect to avoid the furnace? If diamonds are refined on the wheel, can we expect to reach perfection without suffering? Who has commanded the wind to stop blowing just because our ship is at sea? Why should we be treated better than our Lord? Jesus, the Firstborn, felt the rod of discipline, so why wouldn’t we, his younger siblings? It’s pride that wants a soft pillow and an easy life for a soldier of the cross. It’s wiser to surrender to God’s will and learn to be pleased with it. Then we can find beauty in hardship, just like Samson found honey in the lion’s carcass.

Morning Prayer

Throw your burden upon the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the godly to be shaken. ⏤ Psalm 55:22

We are stronger than we know, as we draw on His grace. ⏤ Eugene Peterson

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we come to You in prayer through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. You have invited us to come to You, and we come boldly to Your throne of grace to find mercy and help in our time of need. Grant us Your peace and accept us graciously. We are sorry for our sins, which have grieved You. We offer no excuse and won't try to make our sins seem less serious than they are. We simply confess them and ask You to forgive us.

We have burdens to carry. Some of them are heavy, and it feels like we can't bear them. But we remember Your promise that if we cast our burdens on You, You will sustain us. So we cast our burdens on You. We don't ask that You take them away from us, for it may be that we need to continue bearing them. So we ask for the grace to keep carrying our burdens, and we trust Your promise to give us the strength to sustain us as we walk under them with faith and confidence. Help us not to faint and fall under the load, but enable us to walk upright, helped by Your sustaining grace.

Teach us to do Your will. Your will is always the best thing for us, the only good thing we can do. Going against Your will grieves You and harms our own lives. Show us Your will, day by day, step by step—what You would have us do. Then teach us to DO Your will. Incline our hearts to Your commandments. Then help us to obey them. It’s not easy for us to do this with our weak hearts, but help us today to do only the things that please You. We ask this in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

Today's Daily Nugget

“You crown the year with your goodness.” —Psalm 65:11.
All year long, every hour of every day, God blesses us richly. Whether we’re awake or asleep, his mercy is with us. The sun may leave us with darkness, but God never stops shining his love on his children.
Like a river, his love flows continuously, never running dry. Like the air that surrounds us and sustains life, God's goodness envelops all his creatures, allowing them to live and thrive in it.

Morning Prayer

may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ⏤ Matthew 6:10

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. ⏤ John Bunyan

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. May Your kingdom come. May Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. This is our prayer this morning. We want Your kingdom to come fully into our hearts so that everything in us submits to Your rule. We want You to be the King of our lives, seated on the throne of our hearts, ruling over our affections, feelings, and desires. So we pray that Your kingdom may come in our lives. May everything in us that opposes You be brought into submission. May our ways that are not right be changed to align with Your holy ways.

Sometimes we get frustrated and upset when things don't go our way, when our work is hard, or when our plans don't succeed as we hoped. Father, forgive us for our discontent and rebellion. We know You are training us and that we are in Your school all the time. We know that when we complain and get upset about our circumstances, we not only grieve You but also hinder Your work in us. Help us to humbly submit to all Your ways and learn well the lesson of submission and trust in Your sovereign plan for us. We want to be truly able to say, "May Your will be done." Give us the grace to say it every day and every hour. Help us to look up to You . . .
when the path is rough,
when the tasks are hard,
when it hurts us to go on—
and to say with love, "Not my will, but Yours be done."

We commit ourselves to You for the day. It may not bring us all sunshine, gladness, and ease. It may have clouds, pain, and hardship. But, Father, we want to make it a sweet, beautiful day—whether it is bright or dark. Give us much of Your Spirit, and may we live close to You all day. We ask all this in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

Today's Daily Nugget

Jesus said, "I give my sheep eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can sn**ch them out of my hand." What do you think of that, you who are anxious and fearful?
Isn’t it a wonderful mercy that when you come to Christ, you’re not just coming to someone who will treat you well for a while and then send you away? No, he will receive you and make you his forever. So don’t live in fear, but embrace the spirit of adoption, calling out, "Abba, Father!" How amazing are those words: "I will never cast you out!"
