The Criminals Prosecuting Nnamdi Kanu: Who Should Truly Be In The Dock?
In every civilized society, justice is meant to be blind, unbiased, fair and guided by truth. But in Nigeria, justice has been kidnapped, gagged, and forced to dance to the drumbeats of corruption and tyranny. The persecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is one of the most shameful examples of criminality disguised as law.
Let Us State The Facts Boldly:
1. Extraordinary Rendition Is a Crime Against Humanity:
Nnamdi Kanu was kidnapped in Kenya in 2021, tortured and illegally brought to Nigeria in clear violation of international law. The Nigerian government committed an act of terrorism by engaging in extraordinary rendition. No legitimate court on earth should allow a case built upon such criminality. The criminals here are not Kanu, but those who ordered, executed, and supervised his abduction and unlawful trial.
2. Denial of Medical Treatment Equals Attempted Murder:
Since his illegal detention, Nnamdi Kanu has been denied proper medical care despite obvious health challenges. International human rights law is clear: denying a prisoner adequate healthcare amounts to torture and attempted murder. Again, who are the criminals? Not Kanu, but those holding him in chains while watching his health deteriorate.
3. Judicial Complicity In Injustice:
Courts are meant to be sanctuaries of justice, but in Kanu’s case, they have become instruments of oppression. Court orders granting him bail or mandating better treatment have been ignored by the government with reckless impunity. Judges who sit silently while their orders are disrespected are complicit. Their robes may be black, but their hands drip with guilt.
4. Selective Justice Is Criminal Justice:
In the same Nigeria, terrorists, bandits and looters of billions are granted amnesty, celebrated and even appointed into government offices. Yet a man whose only “crime” is demanding self-determination for his people is locked up like a dangerous beast. That hypocrisy is not justice, it is persecution. It is criminality of the highest order.
5. The Constitution Betrayed:
The Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of speech, association and self-determination. By detaining Nnamdi Kanu, the government is not only violating international law but also trampling on its own constitution. This is state criminality dressed in agbada and military uniforms.
Those prosecuting Nnamdi Kanu are not seekers of justice, they are the very criminals destroying the foundation of justice. Their hands are stained with the crimes of abduction, torture, suppression and constitutional betrayal. They are the ones that should be in the dock, not Nnamdi Kanu.
If there is any honesty left in Nigeria’s judiciary, it must recognize this simple truth: the criminals are in A*o Rock, the DSS offices and the corrupt corridors of power, not in Nnamdi Kanu’s cell.
Friday, the 26th of September, should not be a day for another theatrical trial. It should be the day Nigeria redeems its battered image by releasing the man it has persecuted for daring to speak the truth.
