A personal letter to my fellow womenfolk – FROM MY CROWN TO YOURS
“I COME AS ONE, BUT I STAND AS TEN THOUSAND.”
As we commemorate Women's Day today, we take a moment to celebrate the remarkable contributions women make across every facet of life. Our influence is undeniable, and today, as we pause to honour our journey, it's crucial to reflect on our challenges so that we may find our own solutions. “None but ourselves”.
From infancy, women encounter numerous obstacles; we are born into a system rife with gender inequality—a system not designed for us to thrive but to constantly fight for our place at the table, earning US titles like "Strong" or "Powerful" as we push through barriers. Climbing the ladder, whether at home or in the marketplace, comes at a significant cost. The relentless battles for recognition and for our voice to be heard, unfortunately, take its toll, impacting our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, ultimately affecting how we show up in all areas of influence.
While we celebrate our wins, courage, and resilience, we must also recognize that these achievements do not come naturally as prescribed by social constructs; we have to work harder to open certain doors. Then, when we finally reach the top, we may find there are limited opportunities for women, where often, the seat you earn at the top table comes with the greater responsibility of lifting other women up as you rise, adding to the expectations you have to live up to. The challenges persist at every level, in every situation, and at every stage of our lives, requiring us to face them head-on with limited resources.
On this journey, whether we like it or not, we need each other. We must share and listen to each other’s stories, overcoming the perception that “THE ENEMY OF A WOMAN IS A WOMAN”, and instead becoming genuine supporters of one another, polishing each other’s crowns. We must be intentional and deliberate about forming support networks that remind us we are not alone, creating safe spaces for connection and growth. And if that’s not enough, it’s okay to seek professional help from therapists, psychologists, life coaches, spiritual counsellors, and other available resources.
As we continue to ascend the ranks, may we see each other in the spirit of UBUNTU—not just "I am because you are," but as a call to action, allowing another to stand on your shoulders, choosing to be a beacon of support so that their light can shine brighter. Empowering another woman does not diminish your light; it amplifies it, and it is the right thing to do.
When all has been said and done – may you never leave yourself behind, and may you never forget to take care of the only asset that truly belongs to “YOU”. Self Care and Self Love are the right things to do, and are non-negotiable.
May we continue to internalize the words of Maya Angelou: “I come as one, but I stand as ten thousand.” Life is a gift, Folks; let's paint more Rainbows🌈. Embrace today! Release yesterday!
Happy Women’s Day to all of you!
