*In Loving Memory of Presley Chweneyagae (1984–2025)*

South Africa and the global arts community mourn the loss of *Presley Chweneyagae*, the iconic actor whose unforgettable performances in *Tsotsi*, *The River*, and *Cobrizi* left an indelible mark on cinema and television.

*A Legacy of Brilliance*
Born on *19 October 1984* in Mafikeng, Presley rose to international fame with his raw, riveting portrayal of *Tsotsi* (2005), a role that helped secure South Africa’s first *Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film*. His career spanned film, theatre, and TV, earning him accolades, including *SAFTA awards* for his role as *Cobra* in *The River* and its spin-off *Cobrizi*.

*A Multifaceted Artist*
Beyond acting, Presley was a gifted *writer, director, and producer*, co-authoring the play *Relativity* and directing *Cell No. 4*. His versatility shone in theatre classics like *Hamlet* and *Julius Caesar*, proving his mastery of storytelling.

*Tributes from the Industry*
- *Nomsa Philiso (MultiChoice CEO)*: “His characters felt like family, every mother’s son, every girl’s funny lover”.
- *Terry Pheto (Tsotsi co-star)*: “We shared an unforgettable Oscar moment. My heart breaks for his family”.
- *Phathu Makwarela (The River creator)*: “He was the epitome of God-given talent”.

*A Cultural Force*
Presley’s work transcended entertainment, shaping *South African narratives* and inspiring a generation of actors. His sudden passing at *40* leaves a void, but his legacy endures in the stories he brought to life.

*Rest in Power, Mokwepa. Your light will never dim.*

Africa Month kick starts on a high note with the South Africa-Nigeria Private Sector Engagement with Minister Parks Tau of the Department of Trade,Industry & Cooperation- DTIC. This important engagement critical during SA G20 hosting given the dynamics of the two powerhouses of Africa. With continued immigration challenges in South Africa, African investors loosing interest and redirecting resources elsewhere creating an even greater economic gap in the Country given the current economic climate.

SA-NG Bi National Commission sat in November/December led by the SA-NG heads of State thus this DTIC follow up engagement with the private sector a positive progressive move to be followed by the SA-NG Business Summit soon.

Southgerian is headed the right direction and proud of milestones I have made in my 16 years of traversing in the NG market as an entrepreneur within the SMME cluster. Greater opportunities opening up and as someone once said:

“If the Nigerian eagle can fly higher and the South African springbok can run faster then rest of Africa will align and together we can change the state of Africa for the better!!!
