People from across the country have gathered at the Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) in Chiradzulu District to commemorate John Chilembwe Day, observed annually on January 15.

The event honours the late Chilembwe, a nationalist leader who led an uprising against the British colonial rule in 1915.

Born in 1871, Chilembwe is remembered for his bravery, sacrifice, and contribution to the country’s liberation struggle.

This year’s commemoration is held under the theme "The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want” and is presided over by the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralization, Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha.
