Today as we celebrate the ”Woman’s Day” I also reflect on my late mother’s journey on this earth and celebrate her… She fought tirelessly for the rights of women under her political organisation that she served for nearly 3 decades and loved dearly. She spoke passionately about woman’s recognition in the society, equal rights, access to quality health, end of GBV, educational opportunities and on women lifestyle choices.
I come from a warm home, but where education was not negotiable, yet life choices were negotiable. My mother was full of life, lights and grace. She effortlessly loved me and my siblings. She cared so much about her families both the Gumede’s and the Dube’s. She loved and adored her region “Catholicism”. She prayed day, night and on earliest hours of the morning. She was truly a woman of strength and grace. I have no doubt that where she is now, she is celebrating with us this “Women’s Day” under 30 year of freedom in South Africa, as she also and we celebrate my late brother’s birthday ‘Popo Daniel Dube’ on this significant day.
Let me also congratulate and celebrate all the women of South African, on their 30 years of uneasy walks but with decisive steps, bravery and determination. You have done this with tenacity and resilience under paths of personal, professional, political, cultural, and social spheres of life… “Wathinta abafazi Wathinta Imbokodo”
