BREAKING NEWS: Businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama Granted R15,000 Bail For Sandton Restaurant Threats
JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama has been granted R15,000 bail. The 40-year-old appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 1 October 2026, after being charged for allegedly threatening women at an upmarket Sandton restaurant.
Mudzinganyama faces ten charges, including fraud, intimidation, crimen injuria and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His legal troubles began last month after a video widely circulated on social media showed him threatening to shoot and kill a group of women in a female bathroom at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton.
In the clip he is heard saying: "I could put a bullet in you now. I do not play. I will murder you now and walk." He also boasted that he was "too wealthy" to face consequences.
Following the incident, he was arrested on 20 September and released on warning to appear in court. His company, Moriel Infrastructure Group, cut ties with him, terminating his role as Executive Chairman and director. Steyn City also cancelled his lease.
Three ministers have since ordered investigations into his state dealings, including his company's R16m eThekwini Municipality tender and SANRAL contracts. The Department of Home Affairs is also auditing his immigration status.
Mudzinganyama has since issued a public apology, calling his behaviour "unacceptable and unjustifiable." The case has been postponed to 15 October 2026.
