Julius Mkhwanazi and Three Co-Accused’s R14.9 Million Precious Stones Case Postponed as State Prepares to Reveal Evidence Over Alleged Bogus Police Raid in Killarney

The case against suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and three co-accused has been postponed to 18 September in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court. The postponement will allow the State to disclose its case to the defence in connection with an alleged bogus police raid in Killarney in 2023.

Mkhwanazi, Keisha-Leigh Stols, Adrian Mackenzie and Kgomotso Makhubo face charges arising from the alleged raid. The State alleges that the group stole six boxes containing high-grade sugilite and manganese stones, valued at approximately R14.9 million, from a flat during the alleged incident.

The accused face a Schedule 6 charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances, along with fraud-related charges. Prosecutors allege that municipal officers acted outside their jurisdiction, while one former co-accused allegedly posed as a police officer during the alleged heist. Details of the robbery emerged during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Former co-accused Etienne van der Walt has since turned State witness in this case and in the separate murder case involving Emmanuel Mbense. The precious stones matter will return to the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on 18 September, when the State is expected to proceed with disclosure of its case to the defence.

ARRESTED FOR R800 MILLION FRAUD AND FORGERY

Mr S Antonio lozzo (49), Daniel Werner Roets (43), and Abraham Johannes Van Rensburg (56) appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate's Court on Thursday after the Hawks' Germiston Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCIU) successfully executed a J50 warrant of arrest that linked the three to a massive fraud and forgery syndicate involving losses estimated at R800 million.

The suspects allegedly forged the complainant's signature at a residential and workplace premises in Brackenhurst these fraudulent documents were then submitted to the Master's Office in Pretoria to officially remove the victim as a trustee.

This unlawful action directly resulted in the victim losing approximately R800 million in financial returns,
They were granted bail to the amount of R 50,000 each.

The case has been postponed to Monday, 05 October 2026 for further investigation

🚨 BREAKING | THIRD SUSPECT ARRESTED IN REIGER PARK MURDERS

The Hawks have arrested a third suspect in connection with the killing of two police officers and two women in Reiger Park earlier this month.

The 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Regan Collis and 24-year-old Jamal Meyer have already been arrested in connection with the murders.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to pursue those allegedly linked to the killings.

‘I Was Not Aware She Was Married’: Limpopo Boy Apologises to Shai Family Over Viral Private Video Scandal

South African dancer and entertainer Matome Robert Mahlatse Thoka, widely known as Limpopo Boy, has issued a formal public apology addressing the controversy surrounding a private intimate video that leaked across social media channels over the weekend.

The public letter, dated August 12, 2026, breaks his silence after mounting professional fallout, which already includes being dropped from the lineup of the inaugural Creators Assembly 2026 in Botswana.

Regret Over Blind Omission
In the highly personal statement addressed to the people of South Africa, Thoka expressed deep remorse and heavy-heartedness regarding the chain of events.

He explicitly targeted his apology toward the Shai family, acknowledging the immense pain the ordeal has brought upon them.

"I only discovered after the video was leaked that she was married," Thoka claimed in the letter
"I should have independently verified her marital status before sharing a private moment with her. Instead of doing that, I threw caution to the wind and I’m now paying the price for my poor judgement."

Thoka firmly stated that his upbringing in a Christian family instilled in him a respect for marriage, adding, "I’m not a home wrecker."

The scandal unfolded rapidly after the explicit footage, which Thoka’s management claims was stolen and distributed maliciously without consent, began trending wildly online.

Despite the privacy breach, the public backlash intensified when online users identified the woman involved as Matshidiso Matilda, a married socialite.

The Shai family previously issued a statement requesting privacy to process the matter internally.

While Thoka's team continues to work with cybersecurity experts to investigate the leak, the entertainer is focusing on reputational damage control.

Closing his statement with a Sepedi traditional proverb pleading for forgiveness and understanding, Thoka stated that trust is not restored through statements but through time, accountability, and corrective actions.

He has requested the public and his followers for an opportunity to do better moving forward.

[ALLEGED ‘SEXTORTIONIST’ RETURNS TO COURT]

The formal bail application of a 30 year-old Soweto resident, Ifeel Simango, who is facing charges of extortion and money laundering, continues today, 06 August 2026, in the Protea Glen Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, in Orlando West, following an extensive investigation into a highly sophisticated international online extortion, sextortion and money laundering syndicate. He made his first court appearance on 30 July 2026, where the matter was postponed and he was remanded in custody pending the formal bail application.

The investigation stems from the tragic death of a minor male victim who was manipulated into sending explicit images of himself via WhatsApp to an individual using a fraudulent online profile. Immediately after receiving the images, the perpetrator allegedly demanded large sums of money from the victim, threatening to distribute the explicit content on social media if payment was not made.

Despite the victim transferring a total of R232,919.38 into a PayPal account allegedly linked to the accused, the suspect allegedly ignored the victim’s distress and explicit expressions of suicidal ideation and proceeded to publish the compromising images on Instagram. The victim subsequently died by su***de, leaving behind a note detailing the ordeal.

The investigation further revealed that the extorted funds were transferred from the accused’s PayPal account into multiple domestic bank accounts.

An extensive forensic digital investigation has since uncovered the international scope of the operation. To date, investigators have identified 52 additional victims worldwide, including two South African victims who are believed to have been targeted by the same syndicate.

Madlanga Commission Orders Controversial ANC-Linked Businessman Suliman Carrim to Appear in Person on 14 August to Testify or Undergo an Independent Medical Examination to Prove He Is Unfit

The Madlanga Commission has postponed the testimony of businessman Suliman Carrim to 14 August 2026 at 09:30, ordering him to appear and testify in person. The Commission ruled on 29 July 2026 that he may only be excused from attending if he voluntarily undergoes an independent medical assessment under strict conditions set out by the chairperson.

The independent medical practitioner must be agreed upon by Carrim’s legal team and the Commission’s evidence leaders, with a report on his fitness to testify submitted by 12 August 2026. If the parties cannot agree on a specialist or the conditions are not met, the chairperson may arrange for an independent medical professional to be appointed through the relevant medical association, while reports from Carrim’s own doctors may also be independently reviewed. Detailed written reasons for the ruling will be issued later.

The Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, chaired by retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is investigating alleged corruption, political interference and criminality within South Africa’s criminal justice system. Carrim, a North West businessman frequently described as ANC-linked, has been called to testify about financial transactions and alleged intermediary roles linked to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, Medicare24, a cancelled SAPS healthcare contract worth hundreds of millions of rand, company transfers and other alleged business relationships.

Carrim has already testified before the Commission but has repeatedly sought postponements on medical grounds, making this at least his fifth application. Evidence leaders have questioned the credibility of those claims, citing geo-location data, whistleblower reports and sightings of Carrim in public while he was allegedly too ill to appear. The latest ruling seeks to balance his medical claims with the Commission’s need to continue its work by requiring independent verification before any further delay is granted.
