I will no longer be silenced!
FACT CHECK: The 20ppm Gluten-Free Standard Isn’t Safe for Everyone with Coeliac Disease!
I was recently discredited by someone in a Coeliac group for sharing factual information — and apparently, it’s now “ok” to go around dismissing people who live with this condition that have different views. Alot of people are struggling daily including myself who have had years of suffering, testings, being my own guinea pig.
The doctors failed me!
I helped myself!
So here are the facts 👇
✅ By law, “gluten-free” means under 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten. This is a labelling rule, not a medical guarantee of safety.
✅ Research (Catassi et al., Am J Clin Nutr, 2007) shows that 50mg of gluten per day can cause intestinal damage, and some people react to as little as 10mg — meaning even trace gluten below 20ppm can trigger symptoms for sensitive Coeliacs.
✅ Gluten-free products can also contain other inflammatory ingredients or hidden gluten sources, and everyone’s tolerance differs depending on gut healing and absorption.
Go take a look at your vitamins and what you believe you need to take daily to be well come tell me how adding gluten free products tested at 20ppm in our food is safe for all Coeliacs!
No one gives people with Nut allergies 20ppm so why are Coeliacs being sold this lie!
The only fear mongering factor here is the fact that we are eating food we think is ok, it tastes good, it's an alternative but in time it accumulates and leads to more disease because that's is what Coeliac does when you go years with feeling ok and then you look again and you aren't!
So no — 20ppm is not automatically “safe for all.”
And dismissing others’ lived experiences doesn’t help the Coeliac community — it silences those trying to raise awareness and protect others from heading down the same path!
Let’s support, not discredit.
Let’s keep educating with facts 💚
This won't confuse newly diagnosed Celiacs, in fact it will guide them to avoid all the long paths of feeling sick and wondering why!
This is not a scare, this is factual!
This person felt they needed to be rude to get their message across because it makes him feel heard .
The real enemy is the food industry, the lies we have been told and that because it states gluten free it must be safe!
Let's share this far and wide so people can have different insights and views!
