Mogale City is facing a rise in robberies, hijackings, and assaults, and ACDP Cllr Lydia Lebesa is speaking out.
She invited BAAGI News to help raise awareness and rally communities to reclaim their safety.

“Families are living in fear. That’s not the Mogale City we want,” she said.

Cllr Lebesa urges residents to work with police, support community patrols, and push for stronger municipal safety measures.

Zimbabwean-born author Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu continues to make waves globally after winning the Best International Fiction Book prize at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair for her novel The Creation of Half-Broken People.

The book explores how Africa’s past continues to shape its present, through the story of a woman haunted by visions. Published by Pan Macmillan South Africa, the novel is also shortlisted for the 2025 Sunday Times Fiction Prize.

This win marks another milestone for African literature and a proud moment for Southern African storytelling.

Motorists around the West Rand are urged to be extra cautious following a sharp increase in car hijackings and vehicle thefts reported in several areas.

📍 Hotspots include:
Krugersdorp, Kagiso (Ext. 6 & 8), Munsieville, Simunye, Randfontein (Greenhills & Toekomsrus), Westonaria Main Road, Homestead, and Carletonville CBD.

👮‍♀️ Safety tips to remember:
âś… Always lock your doors and close windows while driving.
âś… Avoid using your phone or getting distracted in traffic.
✅ Keep a safe following distance, don’t get boxed in.
âś… Stay alert near intersections, shopping centres, and driveways.
âś… Install a reliable tracker on your vehicle.
âś… Make sure your home gate area is well-lit at night.
