John 1: 43 - 51;
The Disciples Follow Jesus:
Andrew and another of John's disciples started following Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother, Simon - whom Jesus later called Peter.
Nazareth was despised by the Jews because a Roman army garrison was located there. Some have speculated that an aloof attitude or a poor reputation in morals and religion on the part of the people of Nazareth led to Nathaniel harsh comment. Nathaniel's home town was Cana, about four miles from Nazareth.
Philip, like Andrew, when He heard went to tell Nathaniel.
When Nathaniel heard that the Messiah was from Nazareth, he was surprised, hence his remark, " Can anything good come from there? Philip's response was, " Come and see."
Fortunately for Nathaniel, he went to meet Jesus and became a disciple. Had He stuck to his prejudice without investigating further, he would have missed the Messiah. Don't let people's stereotype about Christ cause them to miss His power and love. Invite them to come and see who Jesus really is.
Jesus knew about Nathaniel even before the two ever met. Jesus also knows what we are really like. An honest person will feel comfortable with the thought that Jesus knows him or her through and through. A dishonest person will feel uncomfortable. You can't pretend to be something you are not. God knows the real you and wants you to follow Him.
Then Jesus refers to Jacob's dream recorded in Genesis 28: 12. As the unique God man, Jesus would be the ladder between heaven and earth. Jesus is not saying that this would be a physical experience (that they would see the ladder with their eyes) like the transfiguration, but that they would have spiritual insight into Jesus' true nature and purpose for coming. (John 14: 6;) also affirms that Jesus is the only way for all mankind to come to the Father in heaven. Come and see for yourself!

John 12: 44 - 50:
Jesus Summarizes His Message:
We so often wonder what God looks like. How can we know the creator when He doesn't make Himself visible? How many times must Jesus tell us, "When you look at Me, you look at the One who sent Me" (12: 45). "Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father" (14: 9b). Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say "Show us the Father"? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you are not just My own. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work. Believe Me when I say that I an in the Father and the Father is in Me," (14: 10 - 12). Jesus can't put it more plainly, when you see Jesus, you see God because, "I and the Father are One!" Jesus is God in the Flesh and in the Spirit. Fully Human and fully Spirit. So if you want to know what God is like, study the word and person of Jesus Christ.
The purpose of Jesus' first mission on earth was not to judge people, but to show them the way to find salvation and eternal life. When He comes again, one of His main purposes is to judge people for how they lived on earth. Christ's words that we refused to accept or obey will condemn us. On the day of judgement, those who accepted Jesus and lived His way will be raised to eternal life (1 Corinthians 15: 51 - 57, 1Thesselonians 4: 15 - 18, Revelation 21: 1 - 8), and those who rejected Jesus ( chose to not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior) and lived anyway they pleased will face eternal punishment (Hell) (Revelation 20: 11 - 15).
I have heard people say, "I'm going to hell so what." Do some research, He'll is the lake of sulfur which is reserved for Satan and all his followers, it is a life of eternal pain. People say how can a loving God send people to hell? Well God does not send you there, you choose to go there by denying God. My question is, "Why would anyone in their right mind choose eternal damnation, with Satan, over eternal life with the Messiah. Free will to choose, choose Well.

John 1: 29 - 34;
John The Baptist Proclaims Jesus As The Messiah:
Every morning and evening a lamb was sacrificed in the temple for the sins of the people (Exodus 29: 38 - 42). Isaiah 53:7; prophesied that the Messiah, God's Servant, would be led to the slaughter like a lamb. To pay the penalty for sin, a life had to be given - and God chose to provide the sacrifice himself. The sins of the world were removed when Jesus died as the perfect sacrifice. This is the way our sins are forgiven (1 Corinthians 5: 7). Jesus paid the price for all sin, every one's sin, by his death
Although John the Baptist was a well known preacher who attracted large crowds, He was content for Jesus to take the higher place. This is true humility, the basis for greatness in preaching, teaching or any other work we do for Christ. When you are content to do what God wants you to do and let Jesus Christ be honoured for it. God will do great things through you.
At Jesus' baptism, John the Baptist had declared Jesus to be the Messiah. At that time God had given John a sign to show him that Jesus truly had been sent by God (1: 33). John and Jesus were related (Luke 1: 36). So John probably new who He was. But it wasn't until the Baptism that John understood that Jesus was and is the Messiah.
John's baptism was with water to symbolize the washing away of sin. Jesus by contrast would baptize with the Holy Spirit. He would send the Holy Spirit upon all believers, empowering them to live and teach the message of salvation. This outpouring of the Spirit came after Jesus had risen from the dead and ascended into heaven (20: 22; Acts 2)
John the Baptist's job was to point people to Jesus, their long-awaited Messiah.
Today people are looking for someone to give them security in an insecure world. Our job is to point them to Christ and to show that He is the one whom they seek.

John 1: 19 - 28;
John The Baptist Declares His Mission:

The priests and Levites were respected religious leaders in Jerusalem. Priests served in the temple and Levites assisted them. The leaders who came to see John were Pharisees (1: 24) a group that both John and Jesus often denounced. Many of them outwardly obeyed God's laws to look pious, while inwardly their hearts were filled with pride and greed.
The Pharisees believed that their own oral traditions were just as important as God's inspired word.
Their leaders ca.e to see John for several reasons:
1) Their duty as guardians of the faith caused them to want to investigate any new preaching (Deuteronomy 13: 1 - 5; 18, 20 - 22).
2) They wanted to find out if John had the credentials of a prophet.
3) John had a large following and it was growing. They were probably jealous and wanted to see why this man was so popular.
In the Pharisees' minds there were four options regarding John the Baptist's identity. He was:
1) The prophet fortold by Moses (Deuteronomy 18: 15)
2) Elijah (Malachi 4: 5)
3) The Messiah or
4) A false prophet.
John denied being the first three. Instead he called himself in the words of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, "A voice of one calling: in the desert prepare the way of the Lord (Isaiah 40: 3) . The leaders kept pressing John to say who he was because people were expecting the Messiah to come (Luke 3: 15) but John would only emphasize why he had come - to prepare the way for the Messiah. The Pharisees, as usual, missed the point, they wanted to know who John was, but John wanted them to know who Jesus was.
John was baptizing Jews. The Essenes (a strict monastic sect of Judaism) practiced baptism for purification, but normally only non-Jews (Gentiles) were baptized when they converted to Judaism.
So the pharisees were actually asking John, who gave him the right to treat God's people like Gentiles.
John's answer, "I baptize with water" - he was merely helping the people perform a symbolic act of repentance. But soon one would come who would truly forgive sins - something only the Son of God The Messiah - could do.
John said that he was not even worthy to be Christ's slave, to perform the humble task of unfastening His shoes. But according to Luke 7: 28; Jesus said that John was the greatest of all prophets. If such a great person felt inadequate even to be Christ's slave, how much more should we lay asside our pride to serve Christ! When we truly understand who Christ is, our pride and self-importance melts away.

Luke 2: 15 - 21;
The Circumcision Of Baby Jesus:
What a beautiful birth announcement. Imagine angels suddenly appear before you? I know I would get a tremendous fright!!! Well the shepherds were caught up with fear, but that fear soon turned into joy as the angels announced the birth of the Messiah. First the shepherds ran to see baby Jesus; then they spread the news.
Jesus is yours and my Messiah, our Savior. Do you look forward to meeting Him in prayer and in His word each day? Have you discovered a Lord so wonderful that you can't help sharing your joy with your friends.
The greatest event in history had just happened! The Messiah had been born. For ages the Jews had been waiting for the long awaited Messiah. When it finally occurred, it was lowly shepherds that received the announcement.
The good news of Jesus is that He comes to everyone including the plain and the ordinary. Jesus does not look at the outside, whether you are rich or poor, fat or slim. Jesus looks at our hearts. Are we humble, are we kind, do we care for those less fortunate than us?
Whoever you are, if you have a heart humble enough to accept Him, you can have Jesus in your life. Don't ever think you need extraordinary qualifications - He accepts you just as you are.
So many Jews were waiting for the Messiah for the wrong reasons.
To deliver them from Roman rule.To deliver them from physical ailments.
But Jesus, while healing their illnesses and establishing a spiritual kingdom, delivered them from sin. His work is more far-reaching than anyone could imagine. Christ paid the price for sin and opened the way to peace with God. He offers us more than temporary political and physical changes - He offers us new hearts that will last for eternity.
Jewish families went through several ceremonies soon after a babies birth. 1) Circumcision; every boy was circumcised and named on the eighth day after birth (Leviticus 12: 3; Luke 1: 59 - 60). Circumcision symbolized the Jews separation from Gentiles and their unique relationship with God.
2) Redemption of the firstborn. A firstborn son was presented to God one month after birth (Exodus 13: 2, 11 - 16; Numbers 18: 15 - 16). This ceremony included buying back - "redeeming" - the child from God through an offering. Thus the parents acknowledged that the child belonged to God, who alone has the power to give life.
3) Purification of the mother. For 40 days after the birth of a son and 80 days after the birth of a daughter, the mother was ceremonialy unclean and could not enter the temple. At the end of her time of separation, the parents were to bring a lamb as a burnt offering and a dove or pigeon for a sin offering. The priest would sacrifice these animals and declare her clean. If a lamb was too expensive for the family, a second dove or pigeon would suffice instead. This is what Mary and Joseph did.
Jesus was God's Son, but His family carried out these ceremonies according to God's law. Jesus was not born above the law; instead, He fulfilled it perfectly.
As we celebrate the beginning of this year off 2026. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or are you still far off from Him, are you still trying to be the pilot of your own life? Is life getting you down? Turn to Jesus, He loves you and cares for you, all you need to do is say "Lord Jesus I need You in my life. I thought I could do life without you, but I can't. Come into my heart Lord Jesus and take control. I am a sinner please forgive me for all my sins Lord and make me your child, Amen".

John 1: 1 - 18;
God Becoms a Human Being:
What Jesus taught and what He did are tied inseperably to who He is. John shows Jesus as fully Human and fully God. Although Jesus took upon Himself full humanity and lived as a man, He never ceased to be the eternal God who has always existed, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and the source of eternal life.
This is the truth about Jesus and the foundation of all truth. If we do not or can not believe this basic truth, we will not have enough faith to trust our eternal destiny to Him. John wrote this Gospel to build faith and confidence in Jesus Christ so that we may believe that He truly was and is the Son of God (20: 30 - 31)
John wrote to everyone Jews and Gentiles. John - as one of the 12 disciples - was an eye witness, so his story is accurate.
When we look at the word became was with God and the word was God - Genises starts with "In the beginning". Jesus was there at the beginning with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Here John says, "The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning". Through Him - the Word, Christ - all things were made. When you feel that your life is too complex for God to understand, remember, God created the entire universe, nothing is too difficult for Him. God created you and me, He is alive today, and His love is bigger than any problem you may face.
Although Christ created the world, the people He created didn't recognize Him (1: 10) Even the people chosen by God to prepare the rest of the world for the Messiah, rejected Him (1: 11) even although the entire Old Testament pointed to His coming.
All who welcome Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives are reborn spiritually, receiving new life from God. Through faith in Christ, this new birth changes us from the inside out - rearranging our attitudes, desires and motives. Have you asked Christ to make you a new person? This fresh start in life is available to all who believe in Christ.

Luke 2: 36 - 40;
The Prophetess Anna and Baby Jesus:
Simeon and Anna had both been waiting for a very long time and they were both old,but they never gave up hope of seeing the Messiah. Here we look at Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
Led by the Holy Spirit, they were among the first to bear witness to Jesus. In Jewish culture, elders were respected, so because of their age, their prophecies carried extra weight. Our society however, values youthfulness over wisdom and potential contributions by the elders are often ignored. As Christians we should reverse those values whereever we can. Encourage older people to share their wisdom and experience. Listen carefully when they speak. Offer them your friendship and help them find ways to continue serving God.
Anna was called a Prophetess, indicating that she was unusually close to God. Prophets did not necessarily predict the future. Their main role was to speak for God, proclaiming the truth.
It would seem like there is quite a gap between VS 38 & 39. The circumcision happened at 8 days of age. The shepherds and the wise men came to visit Baby Jesus and then Joseph was told to take the Baby to Egypt. Herod had all the boys up to two years killed, so it would seem like they returned to Nazareth in Galilee when Herod died and God told them it was safe to return.
Jesus was filled with wisdom, which is not surprising since He stayed in close contact with His Heavenly Father. James 1: 5; says God gives wisdom generously to all who ask. Like Jesus we can grow in wisdom by walking with God.

Where there is friction and anger, get rid of it, make peace with one another. God is love, He forgave our iniquities. We need to forgive others if we want to be acceptable to the Lord

Luke 2: 22 - 35;

When Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to the temple to be consecrated to God, they met an old man who told them what their child would become. He then said that he could die in peace, because he had seen the Messiah. This was the second time that someone had greeted Mary with a prophesy about her Son. Simeon prophesied that Jesus would have a dividing effect on Israel. Some would fall because of Him, while others would rise. The reason being some would believe and others would not. Nothing has changed even today, there are still those who are waiting for the promised Messiah. Our Savior lives.

Matthew 2: 13 - 23;
The Escape to Egypt and the Return to Nazareth:
After the Magi had left, by a different route. Joseph had another vision from God. God told him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt, until He called them back, as Herod was angry that the Magi had tricked him. Herod then ordered all the boys two years and under to be killed. Herod did this in an obsessive attempt to kill Jesus. Herod was an earthly king, Jesus was King by divine appointment. No one can thwart God's plans.
Although Joseph was not Jesus's real father, he was Jesus's legal father and was responsible for His safety and well-being. So going to Egypt was not unusual as there were colonies of Jews in several major Egyptian cities.
The flight to Egypt has some interesting parallels, and Israel's history. As an infant nation, Israel went to Egypt, just as Jesus did as a child. God led Israel out. God led Jesus back. Both events show God working to save His people.
Herod totally misunderstood the reason for Christ coming, he thought that the newborn King would oneday take over his throne. Jesus didn't want Herod's throne, He wanted to be King of his life. Jesus wanted to give Herod eternal life, not take his present life awaIt is amazing how many people are out there frightened that Jesus Christ wants to take things away from them, when in reality He really wants to give them real freedom, peace and Joy. Don't fear Christ - give Him the throne of your heart.
Before Herod the Great died he, knowing that Rome would not trust his sons with as much power as he had, divided his kingdom into three parts. One part per son.
An Angel of the Lord then appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take Jesus and return to Israel as those who were trying to kill Jesus were dead. So they went back to Nazareth, the home town of Joseph and Mary. That is why he was called a Nazarene.
To those who think that they will live forever, sorry to burst your bubble. We will all die sometime and it does not matter the amount of money you have or the plans for longevity. It will not help you at all because we will all die, and then we must face the ultimate judge, Jesus Christ. So stop being obstinate and come to Jesus, repent, and be saved. Jesus is our only hope of Salvation.

John 21: 20 - 24;
Jesus Talking With Peter:
Peter asked Jesus how John would die, and Jesus basically said to him that it was not Peter's concern, Peter should just concentrate on following Jesus. Why is it that we tend to concern ourselves with other people's lives, maybe it is to rationalize our own level of devotion to Christ or to question God's justice. Jesus uses the same response to us as He did to Peter, "What is that to you? You must follow Me."
As for John, early church history reports that after living many years on the Island of Patmos, he returned to Ephesus, where he died a natural death, as an old man. John the disciple was the only one of the disciples that died a natural death.
John's stated purpose for writing this Gospel was to show that Jesus was the Son of God. He clearly presented the evidence for Jesus' claims. When evidence is presented in a courtroom, those who hear it must also make a choice - is Jesus the Son of God, or isn't He? You are the jury. You have heard all the evidence, clearly presented, you must decide. Read John's Gospel and believe.

Matthew 10: 17 - 22;
St Stephen (Martyr)
Jesus Prepares The Disciples for Persecution:
Jesus said that His disciples would be persecuted. In the time to come brother will betray brother to death, a father His child and many will be persecuted for their faith in Jesus.
Much of these things happened after Jesus returned to the Father in heaven. The religious leaders and the teachers of the law tried to silence Peter and John by having them flogged. Stephen was stoned to death for his faith, Saul was in attendance. Many Christians were fed to the lions in Rome.
Living for God often brings on persecution, but with it comes the opportunity to tell the good news of salvation.
In times of persecution, we can be confident because Jesus has "overcome the world" (John16: 33) and those who stand firm to the end will be saved (10: 22).
Jesus told the disciples that when arrested for preaching the gospel, they should not worry about what to say in their defense- God's Spirit would speak through them. This promise was fulfilled in Acts 4: 8 - 14 and elsewhere. Some mistakenly think this means we don't have to prepare to present the gospel because God will take care of everything. Scripture teaches, however that we are to make carefully prepared, thoughtful statements (Colossians 4: 6;) Jesus is not telling us to stop preparing but to stop worrying.
Standing firm to the end is not a way to be saved but the evidence that a person is really committed to Jesus. Persistence is not a means to earn salvation; it is by the by-product of a truly devoted life. We must always stand firm and be devoted only to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
