Following the recent confirmation of rabies in a Cape fur seal in Cape Town, Shark Spotters will implement a new protocol to assist the City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management to manage seal-human conflict on our beaches and reduce any possibility of the transfer of rabies from an infected seal to humans or dogs.

While there is currently not enough information on the extent of rabies infections in seals, it is hoped that it will be low with few individuals affected. This protocol is therefore a 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 to manage potential incidents should they arise until we have greater clarity on the number of seals infected with rabies.

𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆:

• if a seal bites a person at a Shark Spotters beach the siren will be sounded and the ocean cleared of all water-users.
• Where possible, the spotters will identify and track the location of the seal responsible.
• Coastal Management will be notified immediately and the water will only be re-opened once the authorities have captured the seal or the seal has definitively left the area
• If a seal is observed behaving unusually or aggressively (in the absence of it biting someone), Shark Spotters will immediately inform Coastal Management who will advise on the course of action required.

It is important to note that seals are an intrinsic part of Cape Town’s ocean ecosystem and their 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 as they come ashore to rest. This protocol will only apply in the rare instance of an unprovoked bite by a seal on a person, or in the event of a seal acting unusually aggressively and posing a potential risk to beach-goers. Seals exhibiting normal behaviour on beaches will be left to rest as usual.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁:

• seals are wild animals and should not be approached, or touched
• feeding wild animals habituate them to people which is harmful to the animal, as well as the public
• no one should feed a seal
• seals in general do not pose a threat to people if left alone and not harassed
• respecting wild life and giving them adequate space will ensure that we can share the natural environment with them
• should a seal approach you, you are advised to simply back away slowly and leave the animal alone

Whether you doing a local fishing trip or somewhere remote, your Hframe is of ultimate importance. Faiz and Sulaiman were in the Overberg the weekend past, enjoying themselves with the help of their Hframes which was supplied by Cape Fishing Magazine.
Sulaiman, a newbie to angling, was over the moon when he caught his first fish away from home. He could easily get to fishing spots to make his debut away fish, an elf. Faiz, a salted angler, catching the elusive Steenbras, easily making it to spots where they hold out with the help of his H-frame purchased by us. Make your fishing trips easier by obtaining one of our H-frames, trusted by many anglers.

Whether you're an avid, active angler, that enjoys long walks, venturing your favourite fishing grounds, or just a leisurely 'past the time' kind of angler, then you would know that equipment and tools are your best friends, when it comes to being prepared for the occassion. In our opinion the tool that carries all of your neccessary equipment, is your H-Frame.

Through the years of fishing we have ascertained that the H-Frame is a very important piece of equipment, giving you that special edge. Your ultimate goal is to get to spots that can perhaps land you fish. You don't only want to get to those spots, you would like to get there fresh and angling ready.

Well, you not going to get there fresh and angling ready by having the wrong piece of equipment that 'carries it all'.
The H-frame is what carries your rods, your reels, your smalls, your rodstands, your bait box, your apparell, your consumables, your pleisure.

We at Cape Fishing Magazine, are excited to introduce an H- frame that will 'carry it all'.
If you're a salted fisherman, then you would know the importance of what we said previously, when it comes to lugging your fishing equipment around.
If you new to angling then our H-frames will kickstart you into the right direction.

Our H-frames are made from lightweight, yet strong, aluminium tubing. No more carrying a heavy frame before you even packed it.
Our H-frames will carry two rods and two rodstands, comfortably.
The large loadbody allows you to pack all your smalls, such as reels, sinkers, fishing line and hooks, to mention but a few.
Our H-frames comes with built in straps to tie down stuff. Stuff such as your bait box, your collapsible bucket, your sleeping bag, etc...

We know how important cushioning is when it comes to walking long distances, that is why we made the straps, lumbar support and kidney belts with high density foam, encased with a hardy material, to give you years of carrying comfort.
The best we left for last and that is the price.

We have our standard H-frames, as mentioned above, now selling at
R950.
We then have our upgraded model, where the loadbox is outfitted with various pouches for easy storage of all your smalls, as depicted in the video, now selling for...
R1100. excluding sinkers which can be added to your item at a base price of R15 each. (only grapnel sinkers are available in the weights, 4 to 7 ounce. The two pouches, supplied with the upgraded model can accommodate 10 sinkers.)
The photo depicting the pouches inside is our upgraded model.

With the bad economic climate we find ourselves, we did some flexing and we are currently running a special, for any two purchased we will give R50 off each H-frame, so introduce a friend, buy two and get R50 off each one.
The bag can accommodate your name embossed on it at an extra cost of R100, with a maximum of seven letters.
Stocks are limited, enquire now!
