Rehab Murder Case to Be Heard on July 9
By Nakampe Lekwadu
The owner of Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre (HOAR), Watson Luandi, has been granted legal representation through Legal Aid South Africa after appearing before the Tzaneen Regional Court on Friday, June 19, in connection with a murder case involving six co-accused.
The Zimbabwean national was represented by KP Baloyi during the proceedings. Before the matter was transferred to the Regional Court, Luandi had been represented by Marothi Mawasha throughout his bail application, which began following his arrest in November last year.
Luandi, who has allegedly been in South Africa illegally since 2024, is facing several charges alongside six co-accused. These include murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and defeating the ends of justice.
The charges relate to the death of 22-year-old Thato Dikgwatlhe, who allegedly died after being assaulted at the Segwashi-based rehabilitation centre outside Polokwane on November 3, 2025.
According to investigations, an attempt was allegedly made to conceal the circumstances surrounding Dikgwatlhe's death. The clothes he had been wearing were reportedly burned, while his body was cleaned before being transported to Mankweng Hospital. It is alleged that the accused falsely claimed that he had died from a snakebite.
Investigating officer Detective Mathebula uncovered inconsistencies in the account given by the suspects. Her investigation revealed that Dikgwatlhe and several other patients had escaped from the rehabilitation centre but were later tracked down. Upon their return, they were allegedly assaulted with various objects, resulting in injuries that led to Dikgwatlhe's death.
Six suspects were initially arrested, while Luandi was apprehended a few days later.
Three of the accused — Tshegofatso Mabala, Lucky Phoka and Jonas Modiba — were granted bail during earlier appearances in the District Court, where the matter had been before Magistrate MC

Magesi relegated After 1-1 draw against Milford FC

By Nakampe Lekwadu

The Limpopo football fraternity has suffered yet another setback following the confirmation of Magesi FC's relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, South Africa's second-tier football division.

This comes after the Moletji-based outfit, located outside Polokwane, failed to win their final Betway Premiership Promotion/Relegation Play-Off match, settling for a 1-1 draw against Milford FC at Seshego Stadium on Saturday, June 13.

Dikwena Tsa Meetse, as the Limpopo side are affectionately known, entered the match occupying second position on the mini-league standings with four points, while Milford sat at the summit with six points. Magesi needed nothing less than victory to secure their place in the top flight.

Both sides started the match brightly, but it was Magesi who gradually took control as they searched for an early breakthrough. Mcedi Vandala came close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute after connecting with a well-worked move, but his effort went off target.

Two minutes later, Sifiso Hlanti squandered another opportunity when he shot straight at the Milford goalkeeper.

Magesi's persistence paid off in the 14th minute when Edmore Chirambadare slotted the ball into the far-right corner, beating the Milford goalkeeper to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Buoyed by the goal, Magesi continued to push forward in search of a second. Vandala beat the offside trap in the 22nd minute, but his dangerous cross found no teammate inside the box. Two minutes later, Chirambadare came agonisingly close to doubling the lead, only to see his effort strike the crossbar with the goalkeeper well beaten after another excellent pass from Vandala.

Sensing danger, the KwaZulu-Natal side mounted a strong response and forced Magesi's defence onto the back foot. Milford found the back of the net twice through Siphosethu Ndlabi in the 28th and 34th minutes, but both goals were ruled out for offside.

In the first incident, Ndlabi took advantage of a lapse in concentration from the Magesi defence and beat Elvis Chipezeze with an acrobatic bicycle kick, only for the assistant referee's flag to deny him.

Milford were later awarded a penalty after a reckless challenge inside the box, but their misfortune continued when C. Philander's spot-kick struck the crossbar.

The visitors returned strongly after the break and were eventually rewarded in the 58th minute. Philander levelled matters with a powerful strike that beat Chipezeze after Magesi defenders failed to clear their lines inside their own half.

Despite both teams creating chances in the closing stages, neither side could find a winner. The final whistle confirmed Magesi FC's relegation, while Milford celebrated a hard-fought promotion to South Africa's top flight.

The result marks a disappointing end to Magesi's campaign and leaves Limpopo without another representative in the Betway Premiership next season. For Milford, however, the draw was enough to secure a historic promotion and a place among South African football's elite clubs.

Bafana Bafana beaten 2-0 by Mexico in World Cup opener

By Nakampe Lekwadu

Bafana Bafana were left bruised and demoralised after being reduced to nine men during their 2-0 defeat to Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night.

Hugo Broos’ charges proved no match for the tournament hosts in a match played before almost 90,000 spectators at Mexico City Stadium.

Referee Wilton Sampaio played a prominent role in the encounter, issuing three red cards. South Africa’s Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane were both sent off, while Mexico’s César Montes was also dismissed late in the game.

South Africa endured a nightmare start as Mexico dominated possession from the opening whistle and pinned Bafana Bafana deep inside their own half.

The hosts threatened in the fourth minute through Brian Gutiérrez, but his delivery from a free-kick was comfortably cleared away. A minute later, Mexico came close again from a corner kick when Raúl Jiménez connected with the ball and fired a first-time effort towards the bottom-left corner. However, captain Ronwen Williams produced a brilliant diving save to keep the score level.

Bafana Bafana’s resistance was broken in the ninth minute when Julián Quiñones capitalised on a defensive error before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net to give Mexico a 1-0 lead.
The South Africans were fortunate not to concede more goals during the first half, with Williams producing a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper denied Israel Reyes in the 30th minute before thwarting Jesús Gallardo and Jiménez in the 35th and 42nd minutes respectively.

South Africa’s best opportunity of the opening half came in the 45th minute when Mbekezeli Mbokazi found space and unleashed a powerful effort towards the top-left corner, only for the Mexican goalkeeper to pull off an excellent save. Moments later, Aubrey Modiba surged forward on attack but was dispossessed before he could test the goalkeeper.

Bafana Bafana’s task became even more difficult shortly after the restart when Sithole was shown a straight red card in the 49th minute following a reckless challenge, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
Mexico took full advantage of their numerical superiority and doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Roberto Alvarado delivered a superb cross into the box and Jiménez rose highest to head the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net to make it 2-0.

South Africa’s frustrations deepened when substitute Zwane was sent off following a VAR review. Zwane, who had replaced Jayden Adams in the 61st minute, was adjudged to have struck a Mexican player in the face, leaving Bafana Bafana with just nine players on the field.

A small consolation for South Africa came in stoppage time when Montes was also shown a red card for foul play in the 92nd minute.

The defeat leaves Bafana Bafana with plenty of work to do in their remaining Group A fixtures. They will face Czechia on 18 June before concluding their group-stage campaign against South Korea on 24 June

From village dreams to legal ambitions: The Inspiring journey of Attorney Stephney Hlokoa from Ga-Mphahlele

By Nakampe Lekwadu

Growing up in the rural village of Mash*te in the Ga-Mphahlele area, Limpopo, an Attorney Stephney Hlokoa never allowed her humble beginnings to define her future.

Raised in a family of nine, she understood from an early age that education would be the key to unlocking opportunities beyond the dusty streets of her village.

Today, Hlokoa is the director of her own Polokwane-based law firm, RSH (short for Ramoloetji Stephney Hlokoa), a remarkable achievement that reflects years of dedication, resilience, and determination.

Reflecting on her journey, Hlokoa said education was always at the centre of her ambitions.
"Growing up in a rural village, I knew that if I wanted to change my circumstances, I had to take my education seriously. I believed that education would open doors that seemed impossible to reach," she said.

After matriculating, Hlokoa received life-changing news when she was accepted to study Economics at the University of Limpopo. She embraced the opportunity with determination and successfully completed her degree after three years of study.
However, obtaining her Economics qualification was only the beginning.

Driven by a growing passion for justice, advocacy and community development, she decided to pursue a second degree in Law (LLB).
"I wanted to understand the legal system and use my knowledge to help communities, especially people from rural areas who often struggle to access legal services and information," Hlokoa explained.

Her academic journey was not without challenges. While studying law, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the country to a standstill. As many people struggled with uncertainty and anxiety, Hlokoa used the period to develop a new skill that would later become a successful business venture.
She discovered a passion for crocheting, creating handmade items such as hats, tops and skirts during her spare time.

"What started as a hobby quickly became something much bigger. Fellow students and lecturers began showing interest in my work, and I realised there was an opportunity to turn my creativity into a business," she said.
Recognising the growing demand for her products, Hlokoa transformed her hobby into a small crochet business, proving that entrepreneurship can emerge even during difficult times.

Four years later, she proudly graduated with her LLB degree and continued her legal training by attending the School for Legal Practice. Soon afterwards, she secured an opportunity to serve her articles at a reputable law firm.
Working alongside experienced legal practitioners helped sharpen her legal knowledge and practical skills.

"My articles provided invaluable experience. I learnt from seasoned professionals and gained confidence in applying the law to real-life situations," she said.

Her hard work eventually paid off when she was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
Today, Hlokoa is the director of her own law firm, located at 58-60 Landros Mare Street, 3rd Floor, Thabakgolo Building, Polokwane. Her practice offers a range of services including civil and criminal litigation, divorce matters, debt collection, deceased estates and correspondent legal work.

Despite her success, Hlokoa remains committed to uplifting others and inspiring young people to pursue their dreams.
"Your background does not determine your future. Whether you come from a village or a city, success is possible if you remain focused, work hard and believe in yourself. Challenges will come, but persistence and confidence will carry you through," she said.

Her story stands as a powerful reminder that dreams nurtured in the smallest villages can grow into remarkable achievements. Through education, entrepreneurship and perseverance, Stephney Hlokoa has transformed her ambitions into a thriving legal career while creating opportunities for others along the way.

Fannie Seribishane sentenced for life for killing his wife

By Nakampe Lekwadu

Fannie Seribishane who was convicted for killing his wife was on Wednesday, June 10 sentenced to life imprisonment at the Polokwane High Court.

The 58-year old had his sentenced reserved after he was found guilty on February 12, and his sentencing was supposed to have taken place on April 15 but only to be postponed to June 10 by Judge Kerin Pillay.

Seribishane was found guilty after the State proved beyond reasonable doubt that he was responsible for the murder of his 52-year-old wife, Mumsy Seribishane, a nurse at Lebowakgomo Hospital.

The tragic incident occurred at the hospital gate as the deceased was arriving for her night shift.

The accused faced the following charges:
Count 1: Murder
Count 2: Contravention of a Protection Order
Count 3: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
Count 4: Unlawful Possession of Ammunition

Pillay found Seribishane guilty on all counts, concluding that the State had presented a strong and convincing case.

According to court proceedings, on October 22, 2024, at approximately 6pm,
Mumsy Seribishane was shot and killed near the hospital gate while reporting for duty. Mumsy is said to have filed a divorce papers a year before she was brutally killed.

The suspect fled the scene in a white VW Golf 7.

A case was initially opened at South African Police Service Lebowakgomo and later transferred to the provincial office, where it was assigned to Captain Phaladi Makola for further investigation.

On November 13, 2024, members of the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit (PIU) arrested the accused in Lebowakgomo.

During the arrest, police seized a 9mm pistol that had previously been reported stolen in Seshego, along with a white VW Golf 7 believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

Further ballistic investigations positively linked the recovered firearm to the murder.

From Zebediela to purpose-driven leadership: The inspiring journey of Charlotte Mogotlane making a difference

By Nakampe Lekwadu

At just 29 years old, a remarkable Charlotte Mogotlane from Moletlane village in Zebediela, Limpopo, is proving that resilience, purpose, and compassion can transform lives and communities.

Born on June 27, 1996, and now residing in Bryanston, Sandton, she is a civil engineer, realtor, entrepreneur, and director of The Kingdom Cares Foundation. Her life journey reflects determination, leadership, and a deep commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities across South Africa.

Raised by her mother, Nurster Mashadile Mogotlane, after the passing of her father when she was in Grade 3, she learned early lessons about perseverance and sacrifice. Her mother, a dedicated teacher, worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her three children despite the challenges the family faced.

“My mother transformed pain into strength,” she says. “Watching her overcome hardship taught me that circumstances should never define a person’s future.”

Growing up in the culturally rich environment of Limpopo, she embraced both her Pedi and Ndebele heritage. As a proud member of the Bapedi tribe and a Sepedi-speaking woman, she credits her cultural background for shaping her values, creativity, and sense of community.

“The concept of Ubuntu taught me that we are because of one another,” she explains. “I grew up in a community where people genuinely cared for each other, shared what they had, and supported one another.”

Her upbringing also fostered a love for sustainability and environmental stewardship. She recalls watching women decorate homes using natural materials and her grandmother weaving beautiful mats from recycled plastics. These experiences inspired her appreciation for creativity, sustainability, and innovation.

Today, she continues to practise many of those values through vegetable gardening and advocating for sustainable living.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, her greatest passion lies in serving orphaned children, homeless individuals, and vulnerable communities through The Kingdom Cares Foundation. The organisation focuses on creating lasting change through skills development, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment initiatives.

“The goal is not simply to provide temporary relief,” she says. “We want to create sustainable opportunities that restore dignity and empower people to build better futures.”

Her background in civil engineering further strengthens her vision for community transformation. She believes infrastructure development, access to clean water, sustainable housing, and road rehabilitation are critical to improving the quality of life in disadvantaged communities.

“If we improve infrastructure and create opportunities for people to acquire practical skills, we can significantly reduce poverty, unemployment, and inequality,” she says.

If given the opportunity to lead the country for a day, she would prioritise addressing homelessness, unemployment, and infrastructure challenges, particularly in rural communities. She also advocates for supporting children’s homes through self-sustaining initiatives such as farming projects, entrepreneurship programmes, and educational development.

As someone who values personal growth, she identifies creativity as her greatest strength. For her, creativity extends beyond art and design—it is the ability to see solutions, opportunities, and hope where others see obstacles.

“I believe creativity can heal, inspire, and help people discover purpose,” she says.
While she acknowledges that stepping outside her comfort zone has sometimes been a challenge, she actively works on personal development through pageantry training, networking opportunities, and participation in organisations such as Toastmasters.

Her approach to criticism and setbacks reflects a mindset focused on continuous improvement.
“I see failure and criticism as opportunities to learn and grow. Every challenge can teach us something valuable.”
In a world increasingly shaped by social media and public opinion, she believes strong leadership requires authenticity, integrity, and action.

“A strong leader must remain grounded in their values, inspire hope, and create meaningful transformation. Leadership is not only about having a voice—it is about taking action.”

Through her professional achievements, community work, and unwavering commitment to empowering others, this inspiring daughter of Moletlane continues to demonstrate that true leadership is rooted in service, purpose, and a desire to leave a lasting positive impact on society.

Ekurhuleni Healthcare professional seeks support for Mrs South Africa journey

By Nakampe Lekwadu

EKURHULENI – A dedicated healthcare professional, mother, and advocate for literacy and skills development is appealing for community support as she prepares to represent her community as a Semi-Finalist in the prestigious Mrs South Africa 2026 pageant.

Tintswalo Ngobeni-Mahlangu, who is based in Ekurhuleni, has built a career in the healthcare sector where she is committed to serving patients with compassion and excellence. Beyond her professional responsibilities, she is passionate about empowering others through education and skills development, a cause that is deeply personal to her.

Ngobeni-Mahlangu's journey to the Mrs South Africa stage has been shaped by resilience and determination. As a child, she faced significant learning challenges and repeated several grades due to difficulties with reading, writing, and understanding English. These struggles exposed her to bullying and self-doubt, but instead of allowing them to define her, she used them as motivation to overcome adversity.

"My experiences inspired me to become an advocate for literacy and skills development. I want others who face similar challenges to know that their circumstances do not determine their future," she said.

Being selected as a Mrs South Africa Semi-Finalist presents an opportunity for Ngobeni-Mahlangu to share her story on a larger platform and inspire people from all walks of life to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams despite obstacles.

She hopes to use her participation in the pageant to raise awareness about the importance of literacy, education, and personal development, while also representing women and communities that have overcome adversity.

As preparations intensify ahead of the Semi-Finalist Showcase scheduled for 3 July 2026, Ngobeni-Mahlangu is raising funds to cover expenses associated with the competition. These include pageant attire, clothing, travel costs, appearance requirements, and other preparations necessary for the showcase.

"Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to achieving this dream and representing my community with pride and purpose," she said.

Community members, businesses, and potential sponsors are encouraged to support her journey and help amplify her advocacy for skills development and literacy.

Online contributions can be made through her fundraising campaign, while direct donations can also be made into her designated bank account.

Ngobeni-Mahlangu expressed gratitude to everyone who has already supported her and those who continue to believe in her vision of making a meaningful impact through education advocacy and community empowerment.

Mehlareng Community Forum dismisses rumours surrounding meeting with SGB

By Nakampe Lekwadu

The Mehlareng Community Forum has moved to set the record straight following what it describes as misleading rumours circulating within the community regarding its leadership and recent engagement with the School Governing Body (SGB) of Mogologolo Primary School.

In a statement released this week, the Forum strongly condemned the rumours, describing them as false, unfortunate and regrettable. The organisation reiterated its commitment to upholding South Africa’s Constitution and serving the community without discrimination.

According to the Forum, several concerned residents contacted its leadership to express worries about the spread of misinformation. In response, the executive committee convened an urgent meeting on Sunday, 7 June 2026, to assess the situation and provide clarity on the matter.

The Forum said it believes certain individuals are deliberately attempting to distort its intentions and undermine its reputation within the community.

“It is an open secret that we regularly engage with different stakeholders as part of our programme of action,” the statement read.

The organisation confirmed that it recently met with the SGB of Mogologolo Primary School and intends to continue engaging with the school whenever necessary. The Forum highlighted its longstanding support for the institution, including a donation towards the school’s farewell event in December 2025.

The Forum also revealed that it had received requests for assistance following a break-in incident at the school earlier this year.

Explaining its operational approach, the Forum said it responds to community concerns whenever they are brought to its attention, regardless of how many people are affected.

The organisation stressed that it does not require a specific number of complaints before intervening on issues affecting residents.

“To us, a single report of cable theft is enough to warrant engagement with Eskom, just as one case of housebreaking is sufficient reason to contact the South African Police Service,” the Forum stated.

The Forum further emphasised that it addresses community concerns without discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, social standing or any other factor.

The leadership called on residents to reject divisive rumours and remain focused on initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of the community.

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders in the interest of community development and social cohesion.
