SANCO NORTH WEST DISTANCES ITSELF FROM SACP, REAFFIRMS ANC SUPPORT AHEAD OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS.
The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West has distanced itself from claims that it supports the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the upcoming Local Government Elections on 4 November 2026.
SANCO Provincial Interim Committee Convenor, Paul Sebegoe, said in a statement during the SACP North West Provincial Congress over the weekend was unfortunate and has caused division within SANCO.
Sebegoe said the declaration did not follow SANCO's constitution or decision-making processes. He explained that only SANCO's National Conference has the authority to make a decision of that nature after proper consultation with members.
He warned that leaders who ignore the organisation's rules could face consequences, adding that SANCO exists to serve communities, not individual interests.
Sebegoe said SANCO's national leadership should act quickly to protect the organisation's reputation and make its official position clear.
He also confirmed that SANCO North West continues to support the ANC in the 2026 Local Government Elections. According to Sebegoe, the organisation will only support ANC councillor candidates who are chosen by communities and approved through the alliance's selection process.
He urged SANCO members and residents not to be misled by individuals who do not meet the requirements to stand as ANC councillors.
"We call on our members to work together with the ANC to secure a strong victory in the upcoming local government elections," Sebegoe said.
