SiAR Maspila, born Katlego Dusky Mabasa on March 16, 1988, is a multifaceted artist who has made a lasting impact in the South African music industry. With a career that began in 2003, SiAR Maspila has excelled as a DJ, record producer, singer, remixer, songwriter, and record label owner. To date, he has released twelve albums and gained widespread acclaim, particularly after his participation in the 2015 “1s and 2 Masters of Spin Season 2” competition on SABC 1 in Johannesburg. His contributions to music were further recognized when he won the “Summer Song of the Year” award at Thobela FM in December 2015. SiAR Maspila’s distinctive style and dedication have established him as one of the most respected artists in the industry.
SiAR Maspila has also worked as a resident DJ on several prominent South African radio stations, including Radio 2000, Motsweding FM, Energy FM, and Munghana Lonene FM.
EARLY CAREER:
Born in Pretoria Atteridgeville, South Africa, SiAR Maspila moved to Mogogelo Hammanskraal during his childhood. It was here that his love for music truly blossomed. He spent significant time with a neighbor who was a music producer, visiting him daily and drawing inspiration to pursue his own musical career. SiAR Maspila’s passion for music deepened when his neighbor asked him to help with a project, and from that moment, he was hooked on producing music.
As a Mamelodi-based DJ and producer, SiAR Maspila worked with some of the best production houses in the industry, including House Therapy, Super House Records, and Two Tone Entertainment. His early successes as a recording artist include collaborations on projects like “Dj-Hu Nose Presents Themcass & Maspila,” “Super House Vol. 5,” “Jukebox Vol. 4,” “House Station 3,” “House Document 2 Presents Dj Themcass & Dj Maspila,” “Juke Box Vol. 3,” and “Black Boys.”
In 2010, SiAR Maspila, along with Nyekx and Mosco, formed the Afro-House trio Afrikan Roots, which was signed to 999 Music in 2015. This marked the beginning of a breakthrough for the group, as they won “Song of the Year” for their hit track “Ko Morago” featuring DJ Buckz. SiAR Maspila’s first major recognition came when he participated in the “1s and 2 Masters of Spin Season 2” on SABC 1, finishing in 4th place.
SiAR Maspila envisions Afrikan Roots as one of the best music groups globally, having played a key role in the group’s growth and evolution.
