At the age of 6 you start your grade 1.
At the age of 18 you complete your matric.
Just a matric certificate. No skills taught during the 12 years of learning.
At the age of 22/23 you complete your diploma or degree most in theory.
At the age of 24 you get an internship, with a stipend of R4500 per month at most. Also at this age you starting your own family having a one child or two.
This means for 16 years you are subjected to a theory and couple of certificates based on theory.
Imagine if we have practical subjects at high schools, where learners are taught trade skills like plumbing, mechanics, carpentry, coding and robotics.
That would had helped to identify learners who are gifted in other areas besides reading and writing. Not this one size fits all and endless theory.
Our Education system needs reconstruction if we want to grow our economy and compete among the best at global level.
