If I propose marriage and the ring is the symbol of my marriage proposal to you and we break up, it's only right that I get the ring back! It was never yours! It is a symbol of my commitment placed on your body! When the police put you in cuffs after arresting you... it don't mean the cuffs are yours to keep! It's a symbol of your detention by them to you! You give them back when the arrest contract is void!
