400 Days in Office: Duma to attend Transport Portfolio Committee and commits to ensure humble service to the people of KwaZulu-Natal

Media and Public Statement by the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma

22 July 2025

Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumo House: Today at 10h30, we will appear before the Transport Portfolio Committee to present the Annual Performance Plan and Budget.

We cherish the opportunity to interact with honourable members of different political parties, especially as we complete 400 days in Office.

The past 400 days have been memorable and characterized by hard work and humble service to the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

We will continue to subject ourselves to the guidance of honorable members. Critically, we believe that with their support we will continue to inspire hope for a better future.

Equally, we value the support, constructive criticism, and guidance from the people of this province.

We remain committed to ensuring that the Department of Transport remains a catalyst for job creation, improvement in the quality of lives, and an engine for the growth of all sectors of the economy.

In today’s sitting, we will give more details of our plans for the year ahead and seek blessings of honorable members as we prepare for the re-tabling of the budget speech this Friday.

Flowing from the re-tabling of the national budget speech by the Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, we are also required to re-table our budget.
We offer to do the following:

1. Accelerate the repair and construction of roads and bridges;
2. Ensure the efficiency of the public transport system;
3. Play a greater role, working with the national department of transport, to ensure the reform of the rail network and to drive the growth of the maritime and aviation sectors. We will do this for the benefit of the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
