GRADE R PUPIL MISSING ON HER 1ST DAY AT SCHOOL.

14 January 2026.

VERULAM (KZN) - Five-year-old Emihle Mavundla has been reported missing after failing to return home, from her first day at Verulam Primary School on Wednesday, 14 January 2026.

Her mother waited at the drop-off point in Mhlasini, but Emihle was not in the scholar transport. The driver said he did not pick her up. A search at the school on Russom Street yielded no results.
It is suspected Emihle may have boarded the wrong scholar transport.

She was wearing her school uniform and is described as dark in complexion, with big black eyes and a chubby build.

LIMPOPO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ANNOUNCES 86.1% 2025 MATRIC PASS RATE.

13 JANUARY 2026.

POLOKWANE - Limpopo Department of Education officially announced the 86.1% 2025 NSC results at the Ranch Protea Hotel in Polokwane, today.

During the event Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya awarded the top 3 best performing learners in the province. Maduvha Munyai and Fhedzisani Ndivhuweni, both from Vhembe East Education District, and Christened Beukes from Mopani West Education District.

MPUMALANGA SHINES WITH 86.55% MATRIC PASS RATE.

13 January 2026 .

MBOMBELA - Mpumalanga has achieved an impressive 86.55% pass rate in the 2025 NSC exams, up from 84.9% in 2024, contributing to South Africa’s historic 88% national pass rate.
Premier Mandla Ndlovu praised the Class of 2025 for their resilience, having started high school during COVID-19. Luyanda Ndlozi of Elangwana Secondary School emerged as Mpumalanga’s top achiever and a top 40 national performer.

The Mandla Ndlovu Foundation, in partnership with the Department of Education, donated school uniforms to 1,000 learners from 10 schools that achieved a 100% pass rate.

BASIC EDUCATION MINISTER ANNOUNCES 2025 MATRIC RESULTS.

13 January 2026.

JOHANNESBURG - Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube announced an 88% matric pass rate, for the Matric Class of 2025 in Johannesburg, on Monday,12 January 2026.

This is a historic milestone for South Africa’s education system, with the National Senior Certificate results showing an increase of 0.7% from the previous year and the highest in the country’s history.

Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube said this was the largest class in history to sit down for Matric results.

Gwarube emphasised the importance of these results as a testament to progress in national unity, economic growth, and social mobility, while commending the contributions of former education ministers, families, teachers and communities nationwide.

GAUTENG MOTHER PLEADS FOR HELP AFTER 35-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER ALLEGEDLY TAKEN TO DRC WITHOUT CONSENT.

IVORY PARK (Gauteng) - A Gauteng mother, Noluthando Mkhaliphi, is appealing for help to bring back her five-year-old daughter, Yowa, who was allegedly taken to the Democratic Republic of Congo by her Congolese father, Yannick Lukusa Ilunga, without her consent.

Mkhaliphi claims the child has no passport and that she is in possession of Yowa’s birth certificate. She has opened a case and approached the DRC embassy, but says she was told the matter must be handled by law enforcement. “I just want my child brought back to South Africa and her father arrested,” she said.

COUPLE’S ARGUMENT ENDS IN BMW OVERTURNING IN OAKWORTH, KZN.

OAKWORTH (KwaZulu-Natal) A heated argument between a couple nearly turned deadly, after their gold BMW 3 Series overturned on Oakford Road near Redcliffe, KwaZulu-Natal.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded after a passerby spotted the vehicle lying on its roof, in thick bush along the roadside. The driver told officers that he and his wife were travelling to their home, in Osindisweni when an argument broke out inside the car. During the dispute, the woman allegedly pulled the steering wheel, causing the driver to lose control and crash. The driver escaped unharmed. His wife was injured and rushed to hospital.

POLICE PROBE MURDER, R**E AND HOUSE ROBBERY IN MHALA.

MHALA (Mpumalanga) - Police in Mhala are investigating cases of murder, r**e and house robbery following a violent incident at Mp Stream Trust on Saturday night, 10 January 2026.
A woman and her 42-year-old husband were asleep when two suspects forced their way into their home at about 22:15. The husband was shot in the chest when he tried to confront the suspects and later died. The suspects demanded money, forced the victim to transfer funds via a banking app, and stole household items loaded into the deceased’s VW Polo.

One suspect allegedly r**ed the woman before she was driven to Mkhuhlu and later abandoned with the vehicle. She returned home and found her husband dead. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

POLOKWANE - An unidentified man has died after allegedly attempting to steal an electric power box near Bosveld Scrap Metal in Polokwane.

The incident happened on Saturday morning, 10 January 2026.

It is alleged that the man was electrocuted during the incident, with his body left at the scene.
