The Verdict: No, but itโs a brilliant geological question!
The Math: The Vredefort Meteorite struck Earth roughly 2.02 billion years ago. Meanwhile, the Pilanesberg Volcano erupted 1.2 to 1.3 billion years ago.
The Gap: That leaves a massive 700 to 800 million year gap between the two events! To put that into perspective, the entire age of the dinosaurs lasted ~185 million years, so these two events happened hundreds of millions of years apart!
What really caused Pilanesberg? Deep internal mantle plumes and rifting within the Earth's crust forced rich alkaline magma upward long after the Vredefort impact cooled.

Magnetite (Iron Ore): Pilanesberg sits right within the iron- and platinum-rich Bushveld region. Magnetite is extremely dense, often feeling as heavy as a piece of iron or steel, and has a dark, shiny metallic luster. (Fun fact: hold a magnet to one and it will stick right to it!)
Aegirine & Dark Syenite: The volcano's magma was packed with sodium and iron, forming dark, shiny silicate minerals like aegirine embedded in volcanic rocks.
Why everywhere? Over millions of years, rain and wind eroded away the softer surrounding rock, leaving these heavy, iron-dense boulders lying all across the park's hills and dirt roads.
