⚠️ URGENT WARNING: SPIKE ATTACK ON R21 NORTHBOUND, PRETORIA
A motorist was deliberately targeted on the R21 Northbound just before the flying saucer interchange. A man ran across the freeway and slowed down in the left lane, throwing something onto the road that spiked the victim's rear tyre. FOUR OTHER MALES were waiting in the centre median.
VICTIM'S ACCOUNT (quoted directly):
"Thank you to the amazing gentleman from Precision towing for helping us and changing my tyre… yes my rear tyre was spiked … I was coming from the R21 Northbound in the left lane just before the flying saucer when a Guy casually runs across the freeway and then on the lane were I was driving he runs slower … I didn’t see what he had thrown on the road but I do know that there was also about four other males waiting in the centre barrier of the freeway .. therefore I tried to drive as far as I could with the flat tyre… please guys be careful out there."
REPORTED at 21:15. Live Traffic Responders were dispatched with towing assistance.
This is a classic SPIKING TACTIC used by criminals in Gauteng, especially on routes like the R21 (a known hotspot from OR Tambo to Pretoria). They force drivers to stop, then rob or hijack them.
Stay safe – tips to avoid spiking:
- Drive cautiously at night or in low-visibility areas
- If you suspect something on the road, change lanes early or straddle lanes if safe
- Never stop on the roadside if possible – drive on the flat tyre to a well-lit, busy area or police station
- Report suspicious activity immediately
Be vigilant out there, everyone. Share this warning to protect other road users. 🚨
