To My Poultry Family โค๏ธ๐Ÿ”

I just want to let you all know that Iโ€™ll be taking a little break from Facebook for now to focus on some personal matters and give myself some time away from social media.

Thank you so much for all the love, support and encouragement youโ€™ve shown me. I truly appreciate every one of you. โค๏ธ

This is not goodbye. Iโ€™ll be back when the time is right. Until then, keep learning, keep growing and keep those chickens happy! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ

Take care, my poultry family. See you soon! ๐Ÿค—

๐Ÿฅš PROVIDE EGG NESTS TO PREVENT EGG BREAKAGE

If you are keeping layers using the deep-litter or free-range system, make sure you provide proper egg nests.

๐Ÿ” Without enough nests, hens may lay eggs on the floor, where eggs can easily:
โ€ข Get broken or cracked
โ€ข Become dirty and contaminated
โ€ข Be stepped on by other chickens
โ€ข Be eaten by hens, leading to egg-eating habits

Provide clean, comfortable and well-positioned nest boxes before your hens start laying.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Good nest management = fewer broken eggs + cleaner eggs + less loss for the farmer.

Farmers, don't wait until you start finding broken eggs. Prepare the nests early! ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ”

๐ŸšจAfter 18 weeks, what vaccination is next? ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’‰

It depends on your farmโ€™s vaccination program and the diseases common in your area. For layers, Newcastle disease and Infectious Bronchitis boosters are commonly given during the laying period.

Always follow the vaccine manufacturerโ€™s instructions or consult a poultry veterinarian for the correct schedule and dosage.

๐Ÿ” HOW LONG DOES A HEN LAY EGGS? ๐Ÿฅš

A healthy layer can produce eggs for 2โ€“3 years, but production is usually highest during the first 18โ€“24 months.

After that, egg production gradually declines. By around 3 years, some hens may become uneconomical to keep as layers because they eat feed but produce fewer eggs.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The key is to monitor egg production versus feed consumption before deciding when a hen has become an off-layer.

Farmers, at what age do you remove your off-layers? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ” DID YOU KNOW?

Good ventilation is essential in a chicken coop.

Fresh air helps reduce ammonia, moisture and respiratory problems.

Donโ€™t keep your chickens in a stuffy house! ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ๐Ÿ”
