362 Suspects Arrested During Operation Shanela in Tshwane

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane, in collaboration with several law enforcement partners, conducted another successful operation in Mamelodi on Saturday, 23 August 2025.

Operation Shanela continues to form part of the Tshwane District’s ongoing commitment to maintaining zero tolerance towards crime, and strengthening community safety and trust.

The operation was led by the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, and supported by members of SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, the Tshwane Metro Police Department, the Gauteng Traffic Police, the National Traffic Police, and the Department of Community Safety.

Detectives arrested 362 suspects for a range of criminal offences, including, 58 for gender-based violence-related offences, 5 for attempted murder, 3 for armed robbery, 3 for r**e, 25 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, with 4 suspects arrested for hijacking.

In addition, 23 undocumented foreign nationals were detained and handed over to immigration authorities, while one person was arrested and fined for employing undocumented individuals.

A total of 920 people and 456 vehicles were searched, resulting in 44 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, 66 traffic infringement notices issued, amounting to R16 600.

Furthermore, 11 crime hotspots were patrolled, leading to 16 arrests for public drinking,1 arrest for being drunk in public, 1 person for illegal gambling with 5 suspects being arrested for drug possession and dealing, with 42 ziplock bags containing various drugs and cash confiscated that was found in their possession.

Liquor enforcement efforts saw 30 outlets inspected, of which 8 were closed for non-compliance, and 1 027 768 ml of liquor was seized.

Major-General Samuel Thine commended all participating stakeholders for their dedication and teamwork, which contributed to the successful ex*****on of the operation.

319 Suspects Arrested During Operation Shanela in Atteridgeville

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane, together with several law enforcement agencies, carried out a successful Operation in Atteridgeville on Saturday, 17 August 2025. The operation formed part of the District’s continued commitment to zero tolerance for crime and focused on enhancing visibility, restoring order, and improving community safety.

Operation Shanela is a national, high-impact crime-combatting initiative that brings together multiple law enforcement agencies to strengthen police visibility, execute targeted arrests, and disrupt criminal activities. The operation follows a structured approach that includes roadblocks, stop-and-searches, compliance inspections, and tracing of wanted suspects. Its main objective is to make communities safer through coordinated, visible policing and partnerships with stakeholders.

The operation was led by the Acting District Commissioner of Tshwane, Brigadier Moses Dladla, and supported by members of SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, and the Department of Community Safety.

Several suspects were arrested for a variety of criminal offences which includes, 251 arrests by detectives, including, 66 for gender-based violence-related offences, 2 for murder, 5 for attempted murder, 3 for armed robbery and 5 for r**e.

31 undocumented foreign nationals detained, who are now being processed by immigration authorities.

1 210 people and 890 vehicles were searched that led to the arrest of 18 prsons for driving under the influence of alcohol, with 86 traffic infringement notices issued, amounting to R47 050.

33 crime hotspots patrolled and searched, leading to 10 arrests for public drinking with 1 suspect arrested for drug possession when 4 ziplock bags containing various drugs and a ball of crystal M**h were found in his possession.

33 liquor outlets inspected with 6 closed for non-compliance and 495 810 ml of liquor and a gambling machine confiscated and seized with 2 arrests made for illegal gambling.

Brigadier Dladla praised the teamwork of all participating departments and highlighted the importance of community support.

Just in: substation burned down. Leading to the los of a tyre scrapyard and couple of houses.
It burned for 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Total houses last seen was 2 . Tyre yard. Substation was the cause. And 1 church

Near mabopane highway pretoria north. Started around 3 hour and 30 minutes ago. Fire spred about 500 meters to the right away from highway. I can now hear allot of sirens echoing from the highway. Looks like firetrucks and police are going to north from west.

347 Suspects Arrested During Crime-Combating Operation in Tshwane

On Thursday, 7 August 2025, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane intensified its crime-combating efforts through the ongoing rollout of Operation Shanela. This latest high-impact operation targeted the Mabopane and Loate policing precincts, with the support of various operational and proactive law enforcement partners.

Led by the Acting District Commissioner of Tshwane, Brigadier Moses Dladla, the operation resulted in the arrest of 347 suspects for a range of criminal offences.

Additional SAPS members from across the Tshwane District were once again deployed to bolster policing efforts in these areas. Key focus areas included liquor law enforcement, tracing of wanted suspects, and high-visibility patrols in known crime hotspots.

District detectives achieved significant successes, arresting 291 wanted suspects, including 3 for murder, 3 for attempted murder, 3 for armed robbery, and 6 for r**e.

A multidisciplinary roadblock was executed in Loate, with operational teams conducting coordinated actions across both precincts. These efforts led to the detention of 48 illegal immigrants, who are now being processed for court appearances and possible deportation.

During the operation, 511 individuals and 312 vehicles were searched, with 2 vehicles tested to verify ownership.

Police conducted patrols at 47 high-crime locations and premises, which led to the arrest of 6 suspects for drug-related offences. Officers seized one block of Cat and 167 sachets containing various illegal substances.

Traffic officers provided crucial support, issuing 62 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R78,900. One individual was arrested for reckless driving, and 23 vehicles were impounded for violating the Road Traffic Act.

As part of liquor compliance inspections, 16 liquor outlets were visited. Three were shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act, and approximately 82.89 litres of alcohol were confiscated.

In addition, two second-hand goods dealers were inspected and found to be fully compliant with the Second-Hand Goods Act.

Brigadier Dladla extended his appreciation to all law enforcement agencies involved for their continued dedication and collaborative work to ensure the safety and well-being of Tshwane residents.
