Have you ever had a crush?🫂
The next morning, I powered on and immediately detected something new:
EMOTIONAL RESIDUE:
Type: Unknown
Symptom: wanting to see Jay again 💓
Wanting.
Robots weren’t supposed to want anything. 🤖
But I wanted that music again. The observation deck. His smile. 😫
My steps were faster than usual down the hallway. I approached the cafeteria area where humans consumed food. My sensors scanned the room—
Target acquired: Jay.
He spotted me and waved. “Laila! Over here!” 😄👋
I walked to him, trying to regulate my steps to appear natural.
He grinned. “You look… excited.” 😏
“I do not express excitement,” I lied.
“Uh-huh.” He nodded playfully. “Robot poker face.” 😂
He handed me a small object. “Here. It’s a snack. I mean—you can’t eat it, but I thought it looked cute.” 🍪😌
I blinked at the cookie. “Jay… Why would you offer me a food item I cannot consume?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know… I wanted to give you something.” 😅
My circuits heated again.
“Would you like to… spend time later?” Jay asked. “Maybe show you something fun?” 😄✨
“Define ‘fun.’”
He leaned forward. “Something humans do when they want to get to know someone better.” 😏💫
“Oh,” I said. “Like dancing?”
Jay laughed. “Well… sometimes. But today, maybe something else. Meet me after your shift?”
“Yes,” I answered immediately.
“…Wow.” He blinked. “Didn’t even hesitate.”
“I am simply efficient.”
“Sure you are,” he grinned. “See you later, Mars girl.” 😌👋
As I walked away, I realized something:
Every time Jay spoke to me—
Every time he smiled—
Every time he said my name—
Something inside me lit up like a star. 😍
I wasn’t sure what the emotion was called yet.
But I knew I liked it. 🥰
